🥰 Please help me congratulate Ali on her promotion to Infant/Toddler Coordinator. Ali came to The Patch as a Mom who wanted something different for her child's preschool experience. She believed in our mission and philosophy so deeply - she just couldn't get enough and asked for a job! She started as a substitute floater teacher and enrolled in early education classes through our Apprenticeship program with College of the Canyons. She not only completed her core units, but continued her studies and now has an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education.

Ali is the perfect person for this job and we are excited for our infants and toddlers to have an amazing continuity of care experience. The teams will be blending and several of our teachers will share time working in the infant and toddler classrooms.

Ali is very creative and excels at staging curriculum and providing a beautiful and inspiring environment for our youngest friends. She's a great listener and is full of wisdom and helps ease parents worries as they transition to group care. Keep up the good work Ali! We are so grateful that you are part of our Patch family 🌻♥️

Lions, and tigers, and bears! Oh, my!

Every year, I eagerly look forward to October. And every year, it flies by wayyy too quickly. It doesn’t help that this is the busiest season for photographers like your truly… It’s quite a topsy turvy time.

Enter the Halloween family. This shoot has become an annual tradition, and it’s one that I treasure dearly. It’s a celebration of all of the things, and I absolutely love it.

He was the Expert and she was the egg-flipper and milkshake mixologist of your dreams. Together, their love created the Little Red Bike Cafe.

But it wasn’t just them. It was Alice’s epic DJ skills (the official soundtrack to the cafe), Logan’s life changing kitchen organizational skills, Dy-lan’s unmatched Honeyed Yogurt works of art, Dekin’s beastly diehard work ethic (and immunity to cutting 1000s of onions), Tim’s immaculate fashion sense, Lindsey’s natural nurturing (thanks to her nursing background), Tomas’ ruthless sense of humor, Colin’s personal knife kit and aspirations to become a head chef, Baby (Buddha) Kyle’s food running/tableside joy-delivery service, El ReyRay’s espresso art, Tyler’s innate gift for hospitality, Julia’s authentic friendliness, Marly’s pies and unmatched chalkboard art, AnnMarie’s talent for writing, Malori’s acute attention to detail, Greg’s ciabatta and cinnamon rolls, Joel’s single origin coffee delivered exclusively by bike (rain,snow or shine), fisherman Rick’s line-caught albacore tuna, and Moo’s Banana Coconut Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. It was all of the loyal customers and friends who showed up every damn day (except Mondays), who came from everywhere around the country (and world), who read the blog, who spread the word, who put N. Lombard St. and North Portland on the map and made sure they became a success story. Together, they were a family.

It was a whole lotta coffee and egg sandwiches, bikes and tattoos, weed and whiskey, Lebowski quotes and @trailblazers fanaticism, the @dovevivipizza that fueled them, the hard work and hard lessons learned along the way. They still miss it every day.

But they know it lives on. It lives on in Jimi and Malori, Kyle and Kristin, and Brian and Julia’s love- and the numerous other couples whose love stories began at the Little Red Bike Cafe. Because from the beginning to the end it was always about love. Thanks to all of you who came along for the ride.
