POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A couple of weeks back, I was very fortunate to put on a solo exhibition ‘Rolling Upon My Day’ @firepopaustralia - launching a commissioned painting for the restaurant whilst showcasing 30 works over the previous 6 years.

It felt great to be curating & executing a show demonstrating development & tangible progress over several years.

Many many thanks to all those that came by, took the time to have a chat & see what it was all about.

A special thank you to @firepopray & @alinavanhou for putting the event on & giving me the space to showcase my work.

Aiming for another solo show at some point next year featuring a bunch of new works with some potential collab shows in the mix too.

24 August — Independence Day of Ukraine 🇺🇦

Finally, I managed to put this together and post it 😅

I had the great opportunity to make this day a little more special for distinguished guests at the British Consulate in Australia.

This dinner was important to Ukrainian people, to Ukraine, and especially to me. Through the food, I wanted to share a part of Ukrainian cuisine, my memories, and my story.

The most important message behind this dinner was that people are still fighting, surviving, and, sadly, dying for their independence.

In memory of my first teacher in the kitchen and good friend, Anton Kostenko, I prepared the main dish that he taught me how to make more than 10 years ago.

I want to say a huge thank you to:

My daughter, who helped me with the preparation;

@firepopaustralia @alinavanhou @firepopray for support and opportunity to use a kitchen I was already very familiar with;

@iren.msr for spending two days with me and helping make this happen;

@katerynaargyrou, for believing in me and for the invitation;

@ukinaustralia, for hosting and for this great experience;

Dan, for his incredible support during service;

And @channie_nettis, for the motivation and good vibes throughout the day. 😊

One step at a time, moving forward and achieving more.

To be continued… 🇺🇦

FIRE & VINE: A Wilimee Vegetarian Journey 🔥🍷

This is the one we’ve been waiting to share with you. Yes, you read that right - Firepop is turning vegetarian for one night only! This is not a drill 😅

Expect lots of fire and amazing local produce. And don’t be surprised if things come on a stick!

Tuesday 18 November | from 5:30pm | $150pp (wine pairing included)

Five courses of vegetarian fire-cooking paired with award-winning wines from Wilimee – and winemaker Ben Ranken will be here to talk you through each one.

Ben won the 2021 Young Gun of Wine Vigneron Award for his work restoring one of the Macedon Ranges’ oldest vineyards. Minimal intervention winemaking, dry-grown vines on ancient Cambrian soil, and yes – he’s bringing the underwater-aged Pinot Noir.

The menu: eggplant with green mole, white asparagus with cured egg yolk and stracciatella, a seven-mushroom medley, and more. Each dish designed to show what fire can do to seasonal vegetables and create the perfect pairing with Ben’s wines.

Seven wine pairings included. From bright aperitif styles to those deep Macedon Pinots we love.

Limited seats available. Link in bio to book and view menu.

Like sunshine after the storm (in this case literally last Monday) we celebrated our annual Chef’s Grove Day with some of our favourite people and fellow producers. A day where we can connect, relax and enjoy the fruits of our harvest and times with people that impact our lives. Thank you to everyone that joins us on this ride of striving to create the best EVOO we can, the support and love you show, just know we couldn’t do it without you.

A fresh breath of air in sydney food scenery. I was humbled from the creativity, pack of flavour in such a small plate thank you @firepopray and @alinavanhou for a warm hospitality and inspiring dinner.

The boys are out enjoying inner west cuisine. Well curated menu and very brave. Pope's nose was the highlight of the night. I can have it for breakfast anyday.

Charred corn and fermented corn ice cream for dessert with lush-full amount of caramel. Mic drop

Snap, crackle pop. Slow start to 2025 eats, but Firepop's bringing enough heat to thaw this expired Instagram wannabe influencer out of semi-retirement and straight into the ironbark's flames (did you know it can burn in excess of 1000 degrees? That's almost hot enough to melt away self-doubt!).
.
Owner-operators Raymond & Alina used to run a food truck of the same name - you may have heard of it (word has it, it's one of Sydney's most famous), and before that, Lamb & Cumin for 20 years. Yes, that Lamb & Cumin - imagine the look on my face when Raymond told me that. Roughly the same face as when I first tried what was to me, the taste of home.
.
So they've been doing skewers since I was in high school, well before they were a thing and when I thought $3.5 fish & chips were - and this is a technical term - 'top sh*t'. Then again, if that price point still existed for fush and chups...ANYWAYS, I think 2024 GFG's best new restaurant of the year doesn't need much more introduction to that, don't you agree?
.
As you've figured out by now, the menu revolves around putting great produce - often, but not always - on sticks, onto a combination of ironbark, bamboo & mangrove charcoals. They burn at different temperatures, different rates, and impart different levels of flavour. The Chinese & Japanese influences are obvious, but a nod to the land we're on is too if you look for it - Davidson plum, dukkah & ample use of high grade olive oils make for an excellent supporting cast to Blackmore Wagyu & Moonacres Farm produce.
.
The dedication is serious - almost Firedoor-level, dare I say. I couldn't see any significant use of electricity or gas other than an induction burner to boil water - the combi oven's even being used as a dish warmer!
.
A fulfilling set menu here is $80 (ALC also doable) which is ridiculous value in 2025. The best $80 I've spent on an end-to-end meal (food only) in a long, long time, and the 'missing middle' type of restaurant that Sydney can never have enough of.
