In Honor of the World Cup - A Shot From Rio, the Heartbeat of Brazil.
The World Cup has been a source of inspiration, an opportunity to unite your nation, a chance to dream ever since I was a kid. Yet, the one being hosted at home in Canada along with Mexico and USA feels hollow. Price gouging from FIFA, pricing out the average working person, along with poor organizationo, heavy politicization, barriers to entry for players, coaches, referees, fans, Not to mention this is the first time a host is actively attacking a participating nation; Sadly it feels like the worst world Cup ever put together. Typically at the end it's the players and the magic of the tournament that rescues such a tournament and I hope it does. But as fans and custodians of the beautiful game I hope we hold FIFA accountable and this level of impunity doesn't ever happen again. #travelphotography #riodejaneiro #brazil #worldcup

A shout to the guides of Rio. They are incredibly kind, generous with their time, fun to explore with. They are also part of a community that make Rio so warm and welcoming. If going to Rio I highly recommend you take advantage of @tarzan_trip_rj @stivenorio and specially @eduriodejaneiro. Whether it is a epic hike or exploring iconic sites they go above and beyond. On a day long hike in heat and humidity we were faced with a medical emergency requiring rescue, without @eduriodejaneiro guidance and handling of the situation what would have been a nightmare ended up being a calm experience.

It is good to have an end to the journey but it is the journey that matters, in the end.! Half way up one of the most iconic hikes of Rio, the views were already breathless, yet on a gruelling hike with heat and humidity the beauty all around is easy to miss. More on this journey later!

Christ the Redeemer, we visited the spot twice once during the day and then again at sunset. Boy was it worth it, during the day the wonder of the world is beaming and at sunset it offers the best vantage point overlooking the city. You will be forever charmed.

As someone who loves the outdoors, Botanical Gardens is not the place I think of when exploring a new place. But Rio's Botanical Garden is magical, countless species from the Amazon, views of Christ the Redeemer and highlighted by a gorgeous Palm Tree Tunnel. It's only $20CAD to visit!
