“AFROJPY.” is the sixth installment of PRXJT BLXCK. This AFRO-PHOTOJOURNALISM photoshoot highlights the elegant beauty embedded in Japanese culture while highlighting those same qualities in Black women. This project encapsulates the cultural collision between African American culture and historical Japanese culture. Set against the expansive landscapes and historic settings of rural Japan, the series captures a compelling cultural dialogue between African American identity and centuries-old Japanese heritage. Through intimate portraits and environmental imagery, the project explores themes of belonging, visibility, cultural exchange, femininity, resilience, and self-expression.

It’s crazy to think this chapter is over. Basketball has been such a big part of my life for the past 14 years. It’s taught me so much about hard work, leadership, and never giving up. I’m thankful for all the hard practices, games, and relationships I’ve created. Thank you Coach McKenzie for never giving up on me. You’ve left an impact on me that I’ll never forget. To my parents, thank you for every sacrifice and for being my biggest supporters since day one. A huge thanks to my coaches, teammates and everyone who believed in me. I’ll always be grateful for the game and the person it helped me become.
