📍Chubby Skewer 幸福小串 - Chinatown, Chicago, IL.

If you’re looking for a fun and interactive meal, this spot is it. Chubby Skewer serves northeastern (Dongbei-style) BBQ skewers, where you grill everything yourself right at the table. They offer a huge variety—wagyu beef, seafood, and tons of vegetables—so you can really customize your meal. Most skewers are around $1.30 each, with premium items like wagyu costing a bit more.

We also tried some sides, including the cucumber salad, which Alize and Rae finished almost immediately. It was light, crunchy, and the perfect contrast to all the grilled meat. We definitely went all in—we had a mix of meats, vegetables, and even some bread/pastry items (not sure what the exact English name is), and everything was delicious.

And yes… we ended up eating 109 skewers😌 (we’re going to break that record next time for sure)

What made the experience even crazier was realizing we had come on their grand opening day (March 16). Total coincidence, but we got really lucky. Even with how packed and chaotic it got, the staff stayed incredibly kind, helpful, and on top of everything.

They’re currently working on getting their liquor license, so for now the boys ended up going nearby and coming back with two beers to go with the meal.

Overall, it was an amazing experience—great food, fun atmosphere, and definitely a place worth coming back to.

Thank you again to @_winxsg and @alize.lee for showing us around Chicago!!😇❤️‍🔥

📍Grill City/Crispy Town in Seafood City — Chicago, Illinois.

What We Ordered
- Pork BBQ Stick + Pork Dinakdakan Combo
- Pork Sisig
- Taho

Sam and Alize:
- Five bbq sticks (assorted meats)
- Pork Sisig (Sam ate the whole thai chili pepper 🌶️)

This is one of those meals that just hits. The pork BBQ stick was incredibly flavorful—sweet, smoky, and grilled perfectly. The dinakdakan was also delicious, and Rae especially loved the citrusy kick from the lime that balanced everything out.

The pork sisig was amazing. Crispy, savory, and packed with flavor, it’s easily one of our top Filipino dishes ever. Every bite was satisfying.

We finished with taho, which was the perfect sweet ending to the meal.

If you’re at Seafood City, Grill City is a must. Simple, flavorful, and always satisfying. Rae bought puto as well, which is half gone when this posts. 😩

📍Lasa Filipino Cafe in Carol Stream, Illinois.

Drinks:
Manila Latte
Ube Latte

Pastries:
Turon Bibingkinitan
Ube Cheese Pandesal

We stopped by Lasa Filipino Cafe on our way to Seafood City and immediately loved the atmosphere. The decor is absolutely beautiful—warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed. One thing that really stood out is that they also carry products from small businesses around the shop. They even had a selection of adorable cards (not pictured) that were so cute and unique. It makes the space feel like more than just a café—it feels like a place that supports community and creativity.

Both drinks were delicious. The Manila latte was smooth and comforting, while the ube latte had that sweet, nutty ube flavor that makes it so satisfying. The pastries were amazing as well. The turon bibingkinitan had that perfect balance of sweetness and texture, and the ube cheese pandesal was soft, flavorful, and a great combination of sweet and savory.

Overall, Lasa Filipino Cafe is such a lovely spot—great drinks, delicious pastries, and a beautiful space that highlights small businesses. Definitely a place worth stopping by if you’re in the area. Thank you to Sam and Alize for bringing us here!!
