A full house in Wellington for the final Doc Edge screening of The War Below.

Thank you to everyone who came to watch, listen and understand why unexploded World War II bombs are still a deadly reality in Solomon Islands more than 80 years later.

It was especially powerful to have Maeverlyn Pitanoe and Dorothy Wickham from Bomb Free Solomon Islands with us for the Q&A.

In 2021, a bomb buried beneath the ground exploded during a family gathering in Honiara. Two young men were killed. Maeverlyn spent 53 days in hospital and continues to live with serious injuries.

She went on to found Bomb Free Solomon Islands, the country’s only survivor-led organisation supporting those affected, educating communities and advocating for the bombs to be surveyed and removed.

Alongside the screenings, Maeverlyn and Dorothy met with diplomats, government officials and Pacific organisations to build greater understanding and regional support for this urgent issue.

Their Wellington visit was supported by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Nine Islands Media.

This has been a small operation behind the scenes so a big shout out to our artists for the three designs, @crash2mo @hurianakt.a and @ahilapalapa

They were all screen printed by one person so massive mahalos to our dedicated screen printer Chris Ma’ia’i, to our dispatch team for helping to fold and pack all the shirts with us, @spunkyasspowerpuff @vaimailacarolynbaker @eg_mn Manamea and Anivanuanua.

Let us all commit to eradicating anti-blackness in our own communities, systemically both here and internationally. Black Lives Matter. We stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement.

Kaimanawa National Park is a good one, even on a drizzly day. This track is called the Tree Trunk Gorge Trail. Pretty sure that’s not the OG name. Sign says one hour but that’s a lie, it’s much longer #newzealand

4-5 hour hike to Upper Tama Lake from Whakapapa Village. Amazing landscape. Icy winds smashed us at the top near the Mount Tongariro base ... thankfully we had our super dorky woollens and long johns on. Only a few other hikers along the way .... good alternative to the busy Tongariro Crossing? #newzealand #hiking
