Feeling very grateful that my family bullied me into a Babymoon in Mexico this past week 💛 @madeleineraifordholland you were right, I was wrong 😉

Baby girl no. 2 will be here in a few months and this was just what we needed to have a little fun and decompress as a family before we head into this final stretch of pregnancy and the crazy/beautiful/hard season that is postpartum 😆

Here are some personal life snapshots of the quiet, wonderful, sometimes adventurous and sometimes mundane life I’ve been living since jumping off your feed in December :)

Pics one + two: JANUARY: spent an afternoon at a local art museum and soaked in this beautiful study by Mary Cassatt + these surprising but perfect color choices by Thomas Allen Paquette (peep those electric blue trees) ** honorable mention but not pictured - taking all the kiddos to Dollywood for new years 🤩 10/10 recommend

Pic three: FEBRUARY: Alex giving Augustina a rose for Valentine’s Day and melting my heart completely 🥰

Pic four: MARCH: had a rare night where all my fur babies peacefully snuggled on me at the same time while watching tv and we had to document it 😂 ** the very first picture is also from March of getting our girl @abs_jac married

Pics five + six: APRIL: 6 years after our cancelled 2020 honeymoon in Scotland, Alex and I were finally able to take the highland roadtrip of our dreams! Dm me for trip recommendations cause we would copy and paste it all again!

Pic seven: MAY: one small moment but spring as a whole was largely spent outside on a picnic blanket watching these two bond and play

Pic eight: JUNE: found out that we will be adding ANOTHER LITTLE GIRL to our family this Christmas 🥰🥰🥰 needless to say we are over the moon! *Shoutout to @kitchen.no.9 for making the sweetest little gender reveal cake for us to celebrate

Pic nine: JULY: Pretty much all of July was spent in some form of water with Augustina, be it pools or splash pads or this video from the final week of the month at the beach with Alex’s family.

Let’s paint my daughter’s nursery during mat leave ✨

This post is long overdue as I finished it 2-3 months ago, but with a 6 month old and roughly 15-20 hours a week to do my full time job, editing this video took a natural place on the proverbial backburner.

Growing up my mom had a muralist come and paint a garden scene in mine and my sister’s childhood bedroom. It was magic to my little mind. I loved laying in bed and daydreaming about being able to step into the world on my walls. It made me feel safe and imaginative and I’m sure had a subconscious hand in my chosen career path.

I wanted to give the same experience to my daughter.

My vision board was all English and Italian countrysides but when it came to painting I decided to throw in some blue ridge mountains and a river since that’s going to be a large feature in her life as she grows up. I added some lily of the valley (one of my favorites) some blackberries (every kids favorite) and an inscription to let her know how much I love her. As she gets older I plan on adding little fur and feather friends peaking out here and there as surprises 🙃

A note for the other mothers in the newborn trenches right now: you may be tempted to watch this and compare your own “productivity” today or this week. I just want to give you some perspective. I’m a professional muralist. This is my straight-up, full time, college degree profession. Pre-baby, a mural this size would take me maybe a week to complete (probably less). Postpartum this took me 3 months.

ALSO - yes - my baby girl has a magical room to grow up in which was really important to me personally. But she also came home from the hospital to a room filled with boxes of unorganized baby paraphernalia because I didn’t have the capacity to get this done before she arrived.

Comparison is the thief of joy and pregnancy and postpartum ask everything of your heart, mind and soul. If you don’t have anything left in the tank after keeping yourself and your baby alive today *that is enough*. There will be a season after this where you can get things done, move mountains and excel in your areas of expertise. It’s ok if that’s not right now 💛
