A very belated thank you to all the dancers, musicians, light particles and waves that made Basket of Light round 5 so special this year ❤️‍🔥

As the summer wanes we still can’t get the solstice out of our eyes and ears. That little flash of idyll cast a beautiful light over the last few months of sun and it’s been a touch to see you all out there ever since.

Now then. Basket of Light is looking for a new home. We need three things. Seclusion, a place to swim, and enough space to dance until the sun comes back. Can you help us?

Last thing! we’re celebrating BoL’s five year birthday this winter - so put 12th December in your diaries and we’ll tell you more about it soon. We’ll be releasing tickets first via our WhatsApp community and mailing list mind, so sign up via our link in bio 🔗

Photos this year were taken by grand light wizard @emilygeorge.me 📸💫

Poster was designed by our very own @r.a.e.woods 🧺✨

I decorated you with lemon blossoms for the long
journey
My boy, sweet bird, my only pride

A traditional lament from Epirus ‘Lemonanthous se stolisa’ / ‘Λεμονανθούς σε στόλισα’
25
Throw open your gates, abysses, I have come to weep.

@irini.arabatzi sings Antonio Cesti’s ‘Disserratevi abissi’ from his opera L’Argia, with the ground bass played by Jan Zahourek on double bass, @sergiobucheli on lute, @konstantinosglynos on kanun, and Music Director and Creative Producer @__wax_on_wax_off__ on chamber organ, while violin countermelodies are improvised by @naomiburrellmusic and @jamesrtoll

The clip is from our show MOURN, a staged journey through grief which loves between concert, theatre, and ritual. Traditional laments from Albania, Epirus and Thrace meet works by Monteverdi, Strozzi and Gesualdo, placing the living inheritance of Balkan mourning alongside the imagined antiquity of Renaissance Italy. Through these parallel traditions, MOURN asks how we come to terms with death and say farewell to those we love most.

MOURN is being reprised at @stonenest_Idn 8-10 October. Ticket link in bio.

My tears, why do you hold back?

@alexandrachillea sings Barbara Strozzi’s ‘Lagrime mie’ with lutenist @sergiobucheli, joined in this final passage by the rest of the ensemble @jamesrtoll and @naomiburrellmusic on violins, @konstantinosglynos on kanun, Jan Zahourek on double bass, and Music Director and Creative Producer @__wax_on_wax_off__ on chamber organ

Why don’t you sing, my bird,
The way you sang before?
Oh, how can I sing
The way I sang before?
They cut off my wings,
They took away my voice.

@dunja_botic sings Thracian lament Γιατί, πουλί μ’, δεν κελαηδείς / Giati pouli m den kelaidis, with kanun played by @konstantinosglynos and double bass by Jan Zahourek

Following its sold-out premiere, FIGURE and Alkanna Graeca bring back MOURN: a staged journey through grief, moving between concert, theatre and ritual.
