But what happens behind the camera?

We asked beauty creators to reveal the invisible side of their work: the effort, the passion, and all the little things that often go unseen.

Cosmetics have always been her greatest passion. She first discovered them while learning how to do her makeup for her dance recitals. She has always been fascinated by the power of everyday rituals, such as applying face cream or mascara, to calm and relax her. She has never seen cosmetics as tools to make herself more attractive or feel more beautiful, but rather as a way to express something more about herself. This is why, after completing her bachelor’s degree in Economics, she decided to pursue a degree in Cosmetic Marketing and launch her own social media profiles: to share with as many people as possible the fascinating world behind what might seem like “just” beauty products.

I do think hydrogels have real merit. They can give you that lovely hydration, temporary plumpness and smoother-looking skin. The format itself is doing something useful here great for the barrier.

You have a water-rich patch with humectants sitting against the skin, helping to slow down water loss while you wear it. So a lot of that immediate effect makes sense from the hydrogel base alone.

Where I’m less convinced is paying extra for a long list of fancy actives without seeing what they actually add to the finished product.

Some ingredients that have been added here like retinoids peptides vitamin c's are sensitive to heat and oxygen. Their stability depends on when they’re added, how they’re protected and what happens during storage and use.

Looking at the Wonder Bath versions we discussed, the underlying bases are very similar. I would expect similar immediate hydration and plumping from those shared bases. The additional ingredients could contribute, but different claims on the packaging don’t establish how different the results will be.

I do like the idea of dispensing a fresh slice with less handling, especially if it makes patches easier for people to use. I really wish they’d developed a refill system alongside it. Keeping the mechanism and replacing the hydrogel could have been brilliant, provided it’s designed properly.

And if you want to know more about packaging in the cosmetic industry, definitely go and follow @allisonturquoise For formulation and ingredient education, check out Annie at @atomicPomlabs on insta too. There’s loads of useful education happening there, giving you an inside look at how your products are actually made and what’s behind the marketing.

So if you want to try one, go ahead. Choose a formula that suits your skin at a price you’re comfortable with. Personally, I wouldn’t pay a big premium for the headline ingredients alone.

Apparently creative fatigue has reached corporate too 😭😂

But jokes aside… this whole @fentybeauty, @glowrecipe + @hudabeauty eye-patch conversation is actually such an interesting look at the beauty industry.

Because we’ve seen these beauty waves before like lip oils everywhere, peptide treatments everywhere, blush sticks everywhere… ghoom phir ke, suddenly everyone is working around the same idea. And now freshly sliced eye patches have entered the chat. 👀

It doesn’t automatically mean somebody copied somebody. Brands follow the same trends, similar technology exists, and products can be in development way before we ever see them.

But as a consumer… when launches already feel repetitive AND prices keep going up, I do wonder “are we getting more innovation, or are brands just racing to catch the same trend first?”

Curious what you guys think because I genuinely see both sides. 👀

* just to be VERY clear - this isn’t meant to target, provoke or start anything against any brand or creator. Just my opinion as a tiny creator and also as an experienced consumer 😂🤝

Huda Beauty, Fenty Skin and Glow Recipe all came out around the same time with basically the same innovation aka freshly grinding hydrogel eye patches 👀

What makes it even more interesting is that this concept wasn’t actually new since Kbeauty brand @wonderbath_global had already launched it months earlier, just without the global platform and hype machine these three incredibly trendy brands have ✨

So this isn’t really a “who copied who?” conversation because that’s how cosmetic manufacturing works, but why are so many brands suddenly innovating in the exact same direction?

Kbeauty changed the beauty industry and mostly for the better 🇰🇷 it brought a skin-first philosophy, exciting texture , new approaches that pushed Western beauty to rethink skincare 🥹 but its influence now goes beyond the products themselves I feel… Western beauty is increasingly adopting the Kbeauty innovation cycle too: faster launches, new mechanisms, textures, packaging, always searching for the next big thing…

Grinding packaging is a perfect example because we watched the concept gain traction with cleansing balms 🧼 now we’re watching the same philosophy move into eye patches

But I’m wondering… when brands are all racing to find the same thing at the same place, don’t they all end up looking the same? Curious where you stand on this 🧐

Is Western beauty getting too Kbeautified? 😳

Thank you to my inspiring colleagues for their amazing take on the topic 🙌🏻 @thelipsticklesbians @charlotteparler @allisonturquoise @urkoreanmomsunny
