Becca congratulations on making the USA Junior Pan Am Water Polo Team!

Water Polo, in my opinion is probably the toughest sport in the world. I retired as a Navy SEAL after 25 years in the Navy. Many people come up to me and would ask who I thought could make it through this grueling training. I would tell them I have seen some of the greatest athletes and physically fit persons not make it through. What it all comes down to is a person's mental toughness and who wants it bad enough.
My daughter started playing water polo her freshman year in high school and I watched her change physically and mentally playing this sport but most of all I watched her change as a person in her four years of high school. If I had to say which type of athlete has the best shot making it through SEAL training, it would have to be a water polo athlete. I loved watching our girls team come together as one, but I also enjoyed watching my good friend’s daughter Becca Melanson grow into this superior player. Like all serious water polo players/athletes, you must enjoy playing, must be willing to work hard and most of all you must be mentally tough to play this sport day in and day out. The best way to describe this very demanding and physical sport it is like playing hockey but in the pool.

Becca Melanson you have shown true grit, leadership and superior playing. You are a true tactician in this sport, and I/we all enjoy watching you play. You are an inspiration to your teammates on the Tiger WPC. Don’t ever change who you are as a player, leader, mentor and most of all as a person. I can’t wait to watch your final season as high school senior this coming year. Make us proud and congratulations on representing our country at the Pan Am Games.
