At 16 years old, I learned what it felt like to hear the word cancer. I never imagined that I would eventually learn what it felt like to lose people I loved to that same disease.

September holds a special place in my heart. Not only is it Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, but it’s also Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month.

When I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer as a junior in high school, I was scared of the unknown. But I was fortunate to have a highly treatable cancer with an excellent prognosis.

Over the years, I’ve met incredible people whose cancer journeys have looked very different from mine. Children who have endured more than anyone should ever have to. Families whose lives have been turned upside down. Friends whose smiles I’ll never see again.

I wish every child diagnosed with cancer could have the same reassurance I was given. I wish every family could hear that their child has an excellent chance of survival. And more than anything, I wish we lived in a world where no parent ever has to lose their child to cancer. Until that world exists, I’ll keep advocating.

As September comes to a close, I wanted to share some of my favorite moments from my advocacy journey throughout college. Childhood cancer doesn’t end when September does, and neither will my commitment to fighting for these kids. Until every child has a cure. 💗🎗️
