Last night, Batavia City Council issued a proclamation in honor of Hispanic & Latin American Heritage Month, recognizing the histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino community members. Two Downtown Batavia businesses, Cinco de Mayo Market, owned by Nely Perez and Gerardo Parra, and Alma Cafe, owned by Alma Alanis and Familia Garcia were named in the proclamation. Daisy Parra and her family were in attendance at the meeting, and accepted the proclamation. These businesses represent the entrepreneurship, traditions and contributions of Batavia’s Hispanic and Latino business community and help strengthen the city’s local economy by contributing to the community’s growth, innovation and vibrancy.

This year’s theme, “Unidos, Somos Más” — “Together, We Are More” — is a wonderful reminder of the strength that comes from celebrating the people, cultures and traditions that make our community what it is.

We’re proud to celebrate these Downtown Batavia businesses and the many contributions of our Hispanic and Latino community members and business owners! ❤️

What an incredible day to remember! 🎉✨

We are so grateful to everyone who joined us for our ribbon-cutting celebration. The love, support, and amazing turnout made it such a special moment for our family and our business.

A heartfelt thank you to Mayor Jeffery D. Schielke of Batavia, State Senator Karina Villa @senatorkarinavilla , State Representative Barbara Hernandez @rep.bhernandez and Aurora Ward 2 Alderwoman Juany Garza @aldermanjuanygarza for celebrating with us and supporting our journey.

To our family, friends, customers, and community, thank you for believing in us and showing up for us in such a big way. This ribbon cutting represents a new beginning for our business and our mission.

We are proud to share our Mexican culture, traditions, and flavors with our community and continue building a welcoming space for everyone.

Thank you, Batavia, for the warm welcome. This is just the beginning. ❤️🇲🇽
