Close to ten years ago, Eagle River Christian Prep hosted one of the most loaded HS 🏀 tourneys Alaska had seen in a really long time — the Tundra Tip Off.
⠀
ERCP was an upstart prep school program at the time, comprised of kids from Chicago, Colorado, Anchorage, all the way up to Gambell, Alaska. ❄️
⠀
Former West Valley HC Kimani Shotwell assembled the team & put together the Tip Off as an attempt to bring ELITE talent to Alaska, but also to give local kids an opportunity to compete against some of the best.
⠀
The event was headlined by Orangeville Prep out of Canada & Balboa City (CA), who featured UCLA commit Jaylen Hands. More than a dozen future D1 hoopers participated in the four team tourney, including impact players at UCLA, Georgetown, Michigan, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Arizona, & Boston College, among others. Orangeville even had a future NBA player on their roster!
⠀
Eagle River Christian didn't last, but considering the amount of Alaskans going the prep route these days & otherwise relocating to pursue 🏀, is it safe to finally admit that Coach Shotwell may have been onto something? ...👀
