Three months of showing up 🥹 I was never taught how to dance, so growing up, I was often the one sitting at Latin parties, feeling uncomfortable because I didn’t know a single step. This year, I decided to take matters into my own hands and learn as an adult. A little reminder that it’s never too late to reconnect with your roots ❤️‍🔥 As a beginner, it’s easy to feel discouraged when you’re learning the foundations, so I’m especially grateful for my amazing dance instructor @salsabysal who has been so patient, supportive, and intentional about breaking down even the simplest steps. Beyond dancing, this journey has become an exercise in self-trust. As an overthinker, learning to be led, let go, stay present, and allow things to flow naturally has pushed me outside my comfort zone in the best way. I love that I am connecting with my culture in a new way, proving to myself that I can learn something completely unfamiliar, and embracing the process of being a beginner. For so long, I didn’t feel like I was American enough… or Latina enough ❤️🌎 Growing up as a first-generation American, I often felt somewhere in between. At home, I was surrounded by the traditions, language, music, food and values of my Hispanic heritage. Outside our doors, I was growing up American—embracing a culture that was also very much mine. 🇺🇸 And for a while, I thought I had to somehow prove that I belonged to one or the other. But I’ve learned that the beauty is in the AND. I am American and Latina. I can celebrate the country where I was born and raised while being incredibly proud of the culture my family brought with them. And in my case, I’m actually blessed with three beautiful cultures that have shaped the woman I am today. ❤️ That’s why standing on that stage as an MC during Hispanic Heritage Month meant so much more to me than simply hosting an event. Looking out and seeing so many families proudly celebrating where they come from—the flags, the music, the dancing, the accents, the food, the stories—made me emotional. Because our heritage isn’t something we have to leave behind in order to belong here. Thankful to @attpac for creating cultural events in the heart of #Dallas like LATINIDAD to support different communities.
