Alaska 🥺

Although I’m looking forward to living and training in Bend I will miss Alaska (about 3/12 months anyways) and the people I met there a lot.
There is not enough photos or memories to share that could show all the things I’ve had the chance to do with all the incredible people I’ve met, but (not to sound too cringe) I hope you guys know I appreciate the opportunities.
I would like to thank my coach/coaches in the past as well for helping me become a much better climber and athlete particularly in the past 2 or so years, and helping me strive for goals in climbing.
I hope to stay in touch with you guys back in Alaska as much as possible, hopefully I’ll get to see you again sometime.

“How you walk up to a climb is extremely important. You want to have a routine you do every single time to prepare yourself mentally. You can see it in the World Cup—almost everyone has a “pre-climb ritual” and they always walk to the route with intention and confidence. Here I am trying for the crux move on a very difficult V9. Not all of it is in frame, but I chalk up, slap my hands together, and sharply exhale to prepare for the climb.” - @alpine_outlaw 🤘

“Soloing is one of my favorite activities to do. Similar to drytooling, it is a time to rest and work on technique. Soloing to me is a moving meditation. Obviously, it is quite a high consequence activity, but it allows me to relax into climbing and continue to enjoy climbing rather than just perpetual training. I am not advocating or recommending soloing, just saying that it works for me.” - ISAAK KESKULA 🤘 @alpine_outlaw

“Drytooling is an odd sport, crossing over into rock climbing not nearly as much as one should expect; however, it does cross over in the realms of, precision, rehabilitation, and cross training.
1. Placing a pick in a certain way is so important—so important I can’t even describe how necessary it is! The pick must be placed perfectly on the hold and then must be tentioned in the exact right way.
2. I do not know exactly how, but Drytooling stresses the body in a different way than climbing. It is weirdly dynamic, but due to the vertical grip, it seems to stress the shoulders and arms in a safer way than in climbing.
3. As Churchill said “a change is a rest,” this is, in part, what makes cross training so important. When the brain is mentally tired and the body is physically tired, a different activity is necessary to shake off the rust from training for climbing. This respite from climbing is a necessary aid station in my week to stoke my fire for climbing.”
