Hybrid Waters: Donaukanal Friday July 18th, 5-7pm @Sophiengarten  Saturday July 19th, 5-7pm @Alsergarten Two deep-dive walk-swims into the material histories of the ‚Vienna Arm‘ of the Danube, with archival documents, storytelling, speculation, a hydrophone, and maybe some drawing. If sediment is a material archive, what histories do the sediments at the bottom of Donaukanal hold? If we think of the Donaukanal as a different kind of public place in Vienna - one that extends through the water column and across the breadth of the city - what kind of place is it? And who and what has shaped it? We will use the non-invasive tools of our imaginations, our bodies, our senses, our memories and our experiences, with the help of archival records from the city’s extensive collections, to unfold the material histories of the Viennese Danube, and dream about its potential futures.  In English/German hybrid. With Lili Carr (current artist-in-residence at the BOKU River Lab) and Madita Kümmeringer (urban researcher). No registration required!

documentation & opening & dear you all around joy #1, part 2 “The political and economic climate of unregulated real estate markets, institutional disinterest in sustaining non-capitalist infrastructures for the arts, along with the lack of legal structures to implement forms of commoning and participatory democracy for citizens, is compelling artists and cultural workers to operate within the same competitive logics of neoliberal markets (certified as the creative industries) that favor material productivity and individual prowess—or slowly pushes them towards the cities’ margins, if not even into the countryside. Occupying, securing, or maintaining spaces for cultural and artistic production amidst a heightened political hostility towards the sector has become increasingly difficult not only for independent groups and artists but also for private and governmental institutions, organizations, and museums of different scales.” @adelina.luft photos: @kunstdokumentationcom & me and you

opening & friendly encounters & documentation of joy #1, part 1 thx to everyone who made this happen, took part, showed up or connected from a distance, can’t wait for more 💜✨🌾 “…I have come closer to a network of organizations with related practices and aims, operating within the field of arts and culture between a rural-urban dynamic. These organizations have been developing hands-on programs of cultivating, handcrafting, constructing basic infrastructures, gardening, and collaborating across disciplines to share expertise and knowledge with architects, biologists, farmers, artists, Indigenous thinkers, and others—through a transgenerational passing of knowledge and by including diverse and heterogeneous publics. It is a practice that moves beyond the now main-stream academic propositions of more-than-human ontologies and integrates both discursive and practical methodologies of testing and experimenting with real-life conditions. These realities vary according to scale and geographic specificities, rural and urban conditions, access to different material and immaterial resources, and how they are politically imagined or conceived. …” @adelina.luft photos: @kunstdokumentationcom & you and me

joyful to invite you all to the first opening at 17(Joy) this Thursday, 7pm! ✨ “This exhibition wishes to highlight an acceptance of fragility—of operating from within the margins of artistic and cultural production and that of the living world—from a space of experimentation, of testing artistic approaches to produce alternatives and new models of education for cultural change. Each ini- tiative rethinks local historical legacies, the relation between urban and rural, and continually defines its positionality with the lands it stewards, finding ingenious solutions to secure, albeit temporarily or without any certainty, a parcel of land for collectively instituting their cultural organizations. These exam- ples are only a few from a multitude of similar initi- atives that are growing into a network of trans-local and interconnected practices. Such exhibitions are intended not only to bring visibility to their practice, but to increase collaboration and new networks, and to provide examples for others to imagine their own desirable ways of life. ◌” @adelina.luft
