One of the things that still blows my mind about running a small business is realizing that every purchase is actually a choice. When someone chooses a reclaimed glass candle instead of something mass produced, they’re choosing reuse. When someone comes to a Candle Bar and gives an old bottle a second life, they’re choosing circularity. And when someone shows up to one of my events, brings a friend, asks questions, shares their own ideas, or tells me about something they’re doing to live a little more sustainably… they’re reminding me that I’m not building this alone. 🥹 That’s the part of OCS that means the most to me. Yes, I want to make beautiful things. Yes, I want this little one-woman show to grow. But underneath all of that, I really believe we can change the way we think about what we consume, what we throw away, and what deserves another chance. Every person who chooses to shop small, reuse something, repair something, refill something, or simply think twice before throwing something away is part of that shift. So thank you for choosing OCS. And thank you for choosing a little more reuse along the way. 🥹♻️ • • • #SustainableLiving #CircularEconomy #ShopSmall #ReclaimedGlass #SmallBusinessOwner

I used to think the hardest part of running a small business would be making the things. Turns out, one of the most humbling parts is realizing that there are actual people on the other side of it. 🥹 People who take the time to come to an event. People who bring their friends. People who tell me about the bottle they brought in, the business they’re building, the project they’re working on, or the tiny sustainability habit they’ve started at home. People who walk up just wanting a candle and somehow leave after a 20 minute conversation about waste, creativity, Oakland, community, or what it means to make something with your own hands. Those conversations are honestly one of my favorite parts of OCS. Because yes, every booking, every purchase, every event helps keep this little one-woman show going. But the bigger thing I’m building is connection. I want OCS to be a place where we can meet each other, support each other’s businesses, learn from each other, and remember that sustainability doesn’t have to be perfect or inaccessible. Sometimes it looks like giving a bottle another life. Sometimes it looks like buying from a local maker. Sometimes it looks like showing up to an event and talking to a stranger who cares about the same things you do. And sometimes it’s just realizing that there are a LOT of us out here who want to make things a little better. 🥹 So if you’ve ever come to a Candle Bar, bought something, shared a post, brought a friend, told someone about OCS, or just stopped to have a conversation with me… Thank you. You are genuinely part of this. 🖤 • • • #CommunityOverCompetition #ShopSmall #SmallBusinessOwner #SustainableLiving #OaklandMakers

🧡 Join me Sunday 10/25 at @altavinawines! D’arby’s Pop-Up is a mini market + third space for community. RSVP encouraged 🔗 in bio. I’m really excited for this one! Alta Vina is one of my favorite spots in Oakland and Jack London, so it only made sense to host my first Pop-Up Market in Oakland here! I grew up going to Jack London a lot so it means so much to host and gather community and sell some clothes and goodies here. @sameenz92 and I have had a couple cute date nights here - tacos and a DJ set and a Summer House Reunion Watch Party. I’ve had some great hangouts with friends here, day and night. This space is so beautiful and so to build a temporary third space here for the afternoon is so exciting and I’m really trying to pace myself! Come shop, come chill, I’ll have some light artsy craftsy supplies, and feel free to bring a friend and/or make a new one! Looking back at my past yard sales in LA and Alameda, it really has a bitch in her feels, so I’ll be writing a substack soon, but in the meantime, enjoy these very cute photos of my very cute friends 💐 FYI Alta Vina has both great wine and tasty NA options (see slide 4 and ask us at the pop-up what it is!) 📍 Alta Vina, 420 3rd St, Oakland 📅 Sunday, October 25th, 2026 ⏰ 3-7pm 💵 Free admission. Mini market will have affordably priced gently-worn second-hand and vintage clothes and home goods. 🎵 @ira.evrywhr 💕 xo
