Went to Alterna for breakfast and it was SO good we had to get takeaway cakes! 😅 The plan was innocent. Two cinnamon buns for a mid afternoon coffee moment ☕️🍰. Very demure, very mindful. Then we discovered it is Alterna’s 2nd birthday weekend, and suddenly self control left the building! It would be rude not to have birthday cake, right? If you have not been yet, Alterna Market is a fully plant based bakery, cafe and coffee shop in the Jewellery Quarter where everything is vegan and everything absolutely hits just right! So yeah, buns plus birthday cake plus zero regrets! HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY you legends! Hopefully many more years of elite bakes to come! 💚 Have you been yet? What are we ordering next time? Alterna Birmingham 2nd birthday plant based coffee shop Jewellery Quarter Okay Birmingham you were right about this one Today is Alterna second birthday and it was my first ever visit and honestly it will NOT be the last We rocked up and there it was All Welcome Here on the door and you really do feel that inside Relaxed vibe, chilled music and the loveliest humans ever Coffee first obviously! Decaf for me and there was a choice of plant milk 🌱 Mr Unconventional had his usual traditional vegan breakfast and said it was sensational apparently I had the Alterna breakfast and WOW 2 of the softest fluffiest pancakes you have ever seen 2 sausages 2 slices of plant based bacon 2 hash browns And syrup Watch the syrup pour in the video I am literally obsessed We also got the loaded hash browns on the side because why not And yes we polished it all off even though the portions are so generous I confess I have always said I do not like sweet and savoury together 🫣 Today I was proved so wrong this combo just WORKS here 🤣 What a place 💚 🎉 Happy birthday 🎂 Alterna here is to many more birthdays and many more visits from us too 👍 Have you been yet ? Finding a good breakfast can be tricky when you’re vegan 🌱 so I’ve put together a list of where you can get one in Brum! If there’s anywhere you’d recommend that’s not on here, please share in the comments! 🔎 #birminghamvegans, #midlandsveganguide, brunch spots in birmingham, breakfast in birmingham, vegan-friendly, brunch @alternajq - Brum’s 100% vegan cafe! They serve the best focaccia sandwiches, coffee and cinnamon rolls, and so a full English and other breakfast bits on Fridays and Saturdays Lovely place ran by lovely people ☕️🌱 @medicinebakery - I absolutely adored this breakfast! I think it’s really decent value at £15. Homemade beans, herby potatoes, vegetable rosti and in-house baked sourdough? Hell yeah They don’t serve this breakfast at every branch though, so check before you go! @paul_at_no_41 - A lovely local spot to me. I love taking family and friends here as they have some great vegan options on the menu for breakfast and lunch! Definitely worth a visit, but it’s a small spot expect a wait on a weekend. @_thehighfield - Now I’ve only been here once, but I really enjoyed it. From what I remember, I asked for the veggie breakfast without the egg and was assured it could be made vegan. It was £12 which wasn’t bad, but I had to pay extra for hash browns added! @ploughharborne - This avo toast was gorgeous. They don’t do a vegan full English here, but I really liked this avo toast (even though it’s £14) and would get it again for sure. I love the vibe in The Plough and the staff are always so so nice @dishoom - I went here for my birthday breakfast and really enjoyed myself. It’s a little on the pricier side, but I always have a good experience there - I didn’t like the sausage though @meaa.uk - Okay, this one is my TOP one 🌟 A giant plate for £15, tomatoes on the vine (my fave), golden hash browns, fresh avo and even hummus and falafel? I thought this was incredible value and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Boston Tea Party - a dependable choice for a vegan breakfast. I do find it a bit pricey in here once I’ve added on an OJ, but I do like it and the food is always quick! @kafenion.bournville - This is one of the best avocado toa

we’re taking you on a bookish brummie day, bab!!! ⛅️🫶🏻🎨 >>> non-negotiable first stop, obviously @waterstonesbirmingham ! Ames picked up the knight and the moth, perfectly in time for the knave and the moon to come out 🌚 I was with the queen of matcha, so she showed me to one of her favourite spots 🍵🍪 we both had the summer special, raspberry cold foam matcha and it was DELECTABLE @alternajq then we headed over to pottery painting!! it was so beautiful in there, and you even get a free drink and snack with your booking (scroll a lil further to see our picks 🤭) and we had a right old giggle with the guy working there and he said he felt like he met 2 of himself in different fonts lol picking what to paint 👩🏼‍🎨 our pottery day flatlay 🫶🏻 what do you think I decided to paint on my mug?… stripes, of course! can’t wait to see them once they’re glazed, had the best day ever xxxx

@alternajq thank you for being one of the highlights of my Birmingham weekend! The plant based goodness was doing the thing you know. Whilst the matcha is deffo on the sweeter side of flavour profile I’d typically go for it was bloody Delish, the strawberry milk is made in house (dairy free obv) and you can taste it also you can see the gloss on that cold foam. The breakfast was a stunning surprise, I’d been craving pancakes but in a savoury American breakfast style way and that’s what I got. Not only were the pancakes sensational; light, fluffy & super buttery, but it was perfectly matched with hash browns, vegan bacon, vegan sausage & I added a side of tofu scramble coz #protein Honestly felt like such a treat and wish I was there longer because I really wanted to try their tofu sando and some of their cookies which looked TO DIE FOR!
