45’ shakeout today, 3.70 miles at EC Laurence Park. Snuck in just in time for a quick moving storm to hit! Lol. An amazing way to test all the senses for when the storm moves in from visual clouds, the feel and smell of the rain brewing and the nice cool breezes that had the leaves dancing.. TBH the horseflies were already out, and not in a chill, relaxing way. They were hungry and chased… lol. Anyone have advice for how to minimize their attacks?

Frying Pan Shake Out… 30 min shake…channeled my inner kid to enjoy the flowers and play on the creek rocks. A hot day, for a nice reminder to start prepping for the summer approaching around the corner..also a side note that some dandelions definitely make you work wayyyy to hard! Lol

This morning a lot of different training reminders popped up in my feed. It was a nice reminder to check in with myself to see if I was including the elements of training that I needed as I begin thinking about my race goals this year. Far too often in the last few years have I allowed parts of my program to slip, especially the strengthening, stretching and cross training for injury prevention. You guessed it, I got injured. It’s nice to briefly reflect on the why but not fixate on it. These are great opportunities to learn and course correct so it doesn’t happen in the future. What kind of things do you enjoy about your training routines? What kind of recommendations do you have for others!?

2 miles in 20:25 done. Pre-shower shake, dodging heavy winds, observing beautiful clouds, and resting feet over rock trails. A much needed quick shakeout. Hope everyone stays safe and dry!

After several days off for knee pains and hurt back, today felt great. Perfect timing for an easy 5k shake at sunset - honestly I almost kept tripping on the sidewalk checking it out. Hope you and yours have a wonderful, blessed and safe weekend!

Today was a fun adventure... after work, I headed out to the Occoquan Trail for about a 50’ run and 4.5 miles.. This was the first time I’ve gotten to explore a really fun and pretty technical course with lots and lots of hills outside of my normal go-to ones. It was so relaxing, absolutely gorgeous and completely quiet. ..
.
Upon getting home, the minis and I got to explore a hidden neighborhood path in the hood and then it was the puppies turn for her walk.. Totaling almost 2 miles, but just shy. 🤣..
.
It’s insane after morning showers, how hot and humid the day became - I call oppressive heat - my lungs literally hurt even in the woods lol. Hope you are having a great Friday eve!!..

✨DORA THE EXPLORER RUN✨
✅ 12.07 miles
✅ 2 hrs, 35 mins, 03 secs
✅ 12:51 mm pace
✅1,090 ft ascent

It’s official, I became Dora the Explorer this afternoon. We had a slight break in the showers, so I put on my pack and and headed out. Thankful for local friends (many kudos again) that could talk me though a hilarious directionally challenged run, which was suppose to be 9 miles for the full loop.

I used footpath, which is amazing at calling trail directions, except when you put in a bad start and follow the same loop for 3 miles. 🤦‍♀️

Sooo, after a solid warmup (only takes a 5k to feel good), it was time to actually run. The trails were muddy, but it was the perfect time when the air was warm enough to handle shorts and shoes that maintained a constant soggy status for the whole run. The trails were ghostly tbh. It was during rush hour, and I only saw one jogger on the walking trail paved connector. It was both liberating to run solo though these hidden trials in DC suburbia, but also definitely kept me on guard too. Certain parts were a big no-no for post sunset.

There were a handful of trails that made up the loop, the core were:
- Colts Neck Trail
- Lake Fairfax Trail
- Rails to River
- CCT
- Rough Trail
- W&OD Side Trails / Birdie Trail

I really cant get over how lucky we are to have such amazing trails, that act like blood veins through the body. Hope to get out there again soon.

Brown’s Mill Reunion.. Running into this hidden trail before Difficult Trail connecting the CCT, inspired the trail run today. Again may salutes and sincere thank you to my local friends that put up with me after work to get me started!

So.... we did a thing? Mollie and I went for a 20 minute run this morning... super easy, :30/:30 walk/run intervals mainly around the soccer field. We ended at 1.6 miles, and she only tried to play attack me once. Success! 😂😂🤣 This is huge since I had a boot on my foot a few weeks ago! Slow and steady this time. 😀

30’ min shake around Frying Pan Farm today… what can I say, I have missed the heat running and just getting back out. Seems like so much time has been dedicated to the yard, just a different kind of cross training! :)
