Korngold’s #Heliane in Essen was a truly cathartic process. Half of the time I didn’t know how I’d manage. One day I felt great, the next day I didn’t know what I was doing.. I kept going, page by page, scene by scene - And suddenly the role took over. A thing I hadn’t experienced in that way before. As Elisabeth and I peeled away through layers or romance, we uncovered an exceptionally courageous, powerful woman, who ended up giving me, her interpreter, the strength to sing her. Amazing.. 🧡❤️‍🔥 So here’s a little photo story of what happens: Photos by: Alvise Predieri She gives her feet to a condemned revolutionary. Out of compassion. Next he’ll ask for her whole body and she shows it to him - yes, I have to strip. Another challenge, which proved much smaller than the musical one actually ☺️ She feels empathy for all humans who suffer and wants to save him and his message of happiness and joy for the oppressed people. She gets caught naked and is put in front of a trial of 7 (!) judges. She gets another 5 min alone with the prisoner, who kills himself, to save her. 🤷‍♀️ Her husband, the dictator tries to get the last bit of information out of the prisoner. Then he tells Heliane the only way for her to live is to resurrect him. She thinks about it - and drinks some water.. She sees the oppressed people enter the court and realises she can’t help them, or herself. She keeps trying to address them but they're all traumatized The people treat her like a saint and express their expectations in her to save everyone. She hears the voice of the dead revolutionary, giving her comfort, so she attempts the resurrection. Come to Essen, to see if she succeeds..! 🧡

#LETSTURNTO : Fee Suzanne de Ruiter @feesuzanne 🎤 Meet the Singers: Next up in our introduction round is is Dutch mezzo-soprano Fee Suzanne de Ruiter! At the age of 21 de Ruiter sang her first role at the Dutch National Opera @nationaleoperaballet in Pierre Audi’s megalomaniac festival “aus LICHT”, in which highlights of Stockhausen’s opera cycle LICHT were displayed. She performed the role of “Muschi” in “EVAs LIED”, a scene from Stockhausen’s opera “MONTAG aus LICHT”. Last year, Fee Suzanne de Ruiter (1997) graduated from her Master Opera at the Theaterakademie August Everding @augusteverding , with Professor Daniela Sindram. #LETSTURNTO : Yiran Zhao 🎤 Meet the Composer: Yiran recently answered three questions about the new production »Turn Turtle Turn« that will premiere at @muenchenerbiennale June 5th 2024! Yiran’s journey with @oblivia2000 began in 2019, marking the start of a collaborative partnership that has spanned four productions. With „Turn Turtle Turn,“ Yiran continues to explore new musical territories – she describes her music for the production as an amalgamation of both acoustic as well as electronic material, with the live acoustic material prevailing; the composition comprises different musical styles, ranging from classical to contemporary to pop elements. »Turn Turtle Turn« will be the the biggest production yet with four performers, three singers, and an eleven-strong musical @ensemble_oe plus conductor. Yiran highlights the need to adapt the composition to the unique characteristics of the venue HP8 @gasteig_muenchen : »The extraordinary acoustic properties in this space, also concerning the different levels therein, which we will perform on […]. As I told you, we conducted extensive sound testing to determine the points in space featuring the best acoustics. On one side on the first floor, you arrive, for example, at an almost church-like sound that is especially well-suited to one certain vocal part.
