🐶🏚️ Looking for a dog-friendly hidden gem in the Peak District? Save this one! 📌🐾

Throw-ing it WAY back to our visit to Throwley Old Hall, hidden away in Staffordshire's gorgeous Manifold Valley 🌳🏞 We actually explored this spot when Olive was just 13 weeks old, so these photos are a serious throwback 🥹🐶

Throwley Old Hall is the remains of an early 16th-century manor house, with original windows, fireplaces and doorways still visible amongst the ruins 🏚️📖 You can wander through the remains and get a proper look at more than 500 years of history.

And while Olive obviously couldn't have cared less about 500 years of history 😂, she had an absolute blast exploring with us... although stopping a 13-week-old puppy from hoovering up every piece of sheep poo she could find was significantly harder than appreciating the architecture 🙃🐑💩

The Hall sits amongst beautiful Peak District countryside, so rather than making the ruins your entire day out, we'd definitely recommend incorporating them into a bigger walk around the Manifold Valley 🥾🌳 Just remember that Throwley Hall Farm is a working farm, so you'll likely encounter livestock along the way. Keep your pup under control, give animals plenty of space and pop dogs on lead whenever you're around sheep or cattle 🐶🐏

🐕🩳 Dog-walking essentials aren't just for the dogs... 🌲🐾

When you spend as much time walking dogs as we do, you quickly learn that what you wear needs to be practical 😅 Because between leads, keys, phones, treats, poo bags and everything else that somehow comes with two dogs... the last thing I want is another bag to carry! 🐶🐕

I've been trying out some of the 2-in-1 shorts from @halara_official recently 🩳 and it's the little details that have impressed me most. Hidden pockets, built-in shorts, plenty of room for all the dog-walking essentials, and clothing that I can actually climb, crouch and move around in without having to think about what I'm wearing 🙌🏻🏃‍♀️

What I particularly like about The Halara Circle is the thinking behind it 👏🏼 Halara has been asking real women what they actually want from their clothes, listening to that feedback and using it to make practical improvements – which is how features like the built-in shorts and pockets came about 💪🏼 And if there's one thing I've learnt from walking two dogs, it's that more pockets are always welcome! 😂🐕

🐴🚛 Hold your horses – this might be one of the quirkiest dog-friendly stays we've found! 🐴🚛

Meet Gee Gee, a vintage horsebox at @thelaybylincs, that has been transformed into one of the most unusual dog-friendly spots we've ever stayed at! 🐾 On the outside, she proudly wears her horsebox heritage, looking like she's heading off to the races 🏇

...but step through the door and you'll find cosy wood interiors, a comfy king-size bed and a surprisingly spacious living area. My fave part? All the little knick-knacks nodding to Gee Gee's previous life, with retro curtains, horse brasses and Shire horse ornaments giving serious "Nanny's living room" vibes 🥹👵

We spent 2 nights here with @Olive_and_Errol and really enjoyed ourselves! If you fancy a stay here yourself, there's a few things you need to know before booking:

• 📍 The Layby Lincs, Lincolnshire (PE24 5PE)
• 🐾 Super dog-friendly – doggy welcome pack provided, no restrictions on breed, size or number of dogs
• 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Adults-only – ideal if your dog prefers a quiet environment without children around
• 🚛 Gee Gee's 1 of 5 unique stays on site - the accommodations are fairly close, so worth bearing in mind if your dog struggles around other dogs
• 🔥 Huge private log-fired hot tub – owner Alex will even prepare it for your arrival!
• 🍳 Covered outdoor kitchen and decking area, plus BBQ
• 🚿 Private bathroom and powerful shower
• 🌿 Gee Gee & Denis both have enclosed garden spaces for supervised off-lead time. As always, know your dog's abilities & tendencies – the fencing may not be suitable for particularly small escape artists!
• 🚗 Parking available - barrow provided to transport luggage
• 📶 Excellent Starlink WiFi
• 🥾 Great base for exploring the Lincolnshire Wolds, local nature reserves and dog-friendly beaches (Skegness only 15mins away!)

⚓🐶 All aboard for a different kind of adventure 🐶⚓

Ever considered a boating holiday with your dog? 🤔 No? Why not! Boating with a dog is much slower, simpler, and more straightforward than you might think 🛥

Here are a few tried-and-tested tips to help you navigate the waterways with a dog – all learnt on our river boating adventure along the Thames with @leboatvacations last spring ⛴️🏞

It ended up being one of the highlights of an action-packed year exploring with @olive_and_errol 🐕 and we’d love to do it again somewhere new… any recommendations?

🥾🐾 A dog-friendly Dorset coastal walk worth saving (for when the weather behaves) 🐾🐶

The weather in the UK has been pretty crap lately 🌧️🌬️ so I’ve been digging back through the archives for hikes that we can do when things finally start brightening up. And this Swanage ➡️ Studland coastal walk is definitely one we’d happily do again!

We first walked it in early September 2022, before we had Errol, so it’s defo on the list to repeat with both pups 🐕🐶 The route starts in Swanage and follows the coast path towards Studland, passing Old Harry’s Rocks along the way 🪨 Olive was just 9 months old at the time, and in her confident, fearless puppy phase — curious, bold, and very happy to be out exploring 🐶

Weather-wise, it wasn't too bad ☁️➡️☀️ Overcast to start, but warm enough for shorts & t-shirts. We packed sweatshirts just in case, but by early afternoon the cloud had blown through, the sun came out properly, and it turned into a really good walking day without ever feeling chilly 🥾

👇🏼 Why this walk works so well with a dog:

• 🚗 Parking: Swanage North Beach car park – BH19 2EN (easy access to the coast path)
• 🥾 Distance / time: approx. 5 miles / 8km, allow 2–3 hours at a relaxed pace
• 🐾 Wide, well-maintained coastal path
• 🐶 Nothing technical or sketchy underfoot
• 🌊 Big views with plenty of space to stop and take them in
• 🚌 Easy one-way option using the Breezer open-top bus back to Swanage (very dog-friendly!)
• 🍦 and ice cream treat in Swanage town centre at the end — including a doggy one for Olive!

Definitely a hike to save for a brighter forecast 🗺️🐾

🐕🐾 Twelve months. Eight paws. Countless adventures 🐾🐶

From windswept beaches 🌊 and forest trails 🌲 to an epic camper van road trip 🚐 and cosy weekends with friends at home 🏡 not forgetting all our incredible boat trips, where the pups truly found their sea legs 🚤🐶

After a tough 2024, 2025 became a year of saying yes, changing plans last minute, and making the most of wherever we ended up – whatever the weather 🌧🌤
Some months were big and busy, others slower and quieter 🌿🤍 but Simon, Olive and Errol were my constant through every month, every place, every adventure 🐾

Here’s our year together, one month at a time 📸
