POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

ALWAYS FLOW

• Tuesdays, 19:00
• Jubilee Square, Jubilee Street, Brighton

A run club where movement meets community; Always Flow offers an environment that people can challenge themselves in, whilst never being left behind.

(Worth mentioning - it was a particularly small group when I went along! Usually there are a lot more people!)

Green spaces have become sanctuaries for people. For some, they are important meeting places and spaces for quiet belonging. 🌿

And this summer, Lighthouse’s Future Creative Leader Megan Lee (@mindbodyandearth) brought the Brighton & Hove community together through COMMON GROUND: a four-part outdoor gathering series spanning bird watching, spatial exploration, embodied movement, and texture printing and senses mapping.

Through these events, people discovered local wildlife with borrowed binocular from @rsbp and mapped out their senses in Queen’s Park. COMMON GROUND showed us what happens when we remove the pressure to ‘participate’ and simply meet people where they’re at.

🌳In our latest Read, Watch, Listen, Meg chats about the inspiring book analogy that sparked her ideas for the project.

We cover ideas of reclaiming public green spaces in Kemptown with @alwaysflow__, intimate movement sessions with @facesoul, sensory mapping and local ecology with @aghhzine and bird spotting in our local areas with Meg.

Each session fostered intergenerational community.

September Round-Up 🍂

Summer might be cooling off, but we’re not slowing down.

September brings new opportunities to connect, discover, create and get involved — with plenty happening across Brighton and beyond. From culture and creativity to community gatherings, conversations, opportunities and things worth knowing about, there’s lots to keep on your radar.

And as we move towards Black History Month, we’re building momentum. For us, October isn’t the only time to centre Black stories, culture and contribution — it’s part of the wider work of living the Black gaze 365.

So as the seasons shift, keep showing up. Keep connecting. Keep sharing opportunities. Keep supporting the people, artists, organisers and spaces making things happen in our communities.

Community isn’t given, it’s made.

Whose green space is it anyway? A collaboration with @mindbodyandearth and @alwaysflow__ , supported by Lighthouse.

We took a journey through Brighton Kemptown’s green spaces. It was an investigation into which spaces are public, which are private and why!

We moved together as a group, stopping at the green spaces we passed along the way. We asked people how they felt about the spaces around them, who they’re for and why some are gated while others are open to all!

Together we mapped every green space we passed, and marked what was public, what was private, and how each one felt.

The event was part of Mind, Body + Earth's Common Ground, a summer series of free and donation-based creative workshops held in Brighton’s parks and green spaces. It’s about connecting people, sharing skills, and building community outdoors – one space at a time.

❤️ We're grateful to our funders and partners: @weareinnovateuk, Chalk Cliff Trust, @sussexcommunityfoundation and @enjoolatafoundation

“This isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about finding who has always been there.” @thenameisnaiya

Naiya, one of our Future Creative Leaders, recently sat down with Lighthouse's Bobby Brown @btsbobby for a real, open conversation about his journey, from fear and self-doubt to confidence, purpose and self-belief.

Part of that journey included moving from his old nickname Dred back to his birth name Naiya, a powerful symbol of renewal and stepping fully into himself.

The resulting photo series, captured by Giles Cook @gconcamm, with titles such as ‘Guarded’, ‘Two Feet In’, ‘Shedding’, ‘The Confrontation’, ‘Trusting’, ‘Inner Work’, and ‘Screwface Yout’, captures that renewal in motion. Each image tells a piece of the story: the walls coming down, the old identities being let go, and the quiet courage it takes to finally be seen.

The photo series (on our Read Watch Listen blog) capture more than an artist at work. They document someone in motion. Someone choosing faith instead of fear, presence over performance and community over isolation.

Naiya also opened up about his roots in music, his love of storytelling, and his newer ventures into fitness and community through the @alwaysflow__ movement, along with his growing ambitions in film and acting.

📸 These behind-the-scenes shots were captured by the brilliant Leyla Abulhawa @artbyleyla._, who was on last year’s @lighthouse.young.creatives (LYC) programme.
