London August 2026 Day 2

The second day of my trip to London in August was Friday, I had 2 shows, 1 return and 1 new show at a new theatre.

For the Matinee I went to Beetlejuice. I was super excited to go back after my first time, as well as to go and see Tom as Beetlejuice and Summer as Delia, and I also got incredibly lucky and got to see Catherine as Barbara and Natasha in her ensemble track again, Kieran as Maxie and got to see Tommy in the Ensemble!! All of them were absolutely incredible. I loved how Tom's Beetlejuice was a lot queerer than David's and the way Summer says Otho will be burned into my brain forever 😂. The rest of the cast were fabulous as always, with Hannah's dead mom opt up and Vanessa as Miss Argentina being highlights. I'm gutted that I'll only get to see this show once more in London, because this cast is absolutely stellar!!

Then for the Evening show, I was at the Dorfman Theatre in the National to see Pride. It was my first time ever at the national, and as much as I am not a fan of brutalism as a type of architecture, the space is absolutely stunning. I have loved the film version of Pride for a long time, so when I saw it was getting turned into a musical, I knew I had to see it. I didn't think I would get to see it's run at the National, but I was lucky enough to get a Ticket and WOW, this is the best piece of theatre I have seen this year, if not ever. I laughed, I sobbed, I was moved, it had great music and a sensational cast, literally everything you could want from a show. I am so glad it is transferring to the Bridge and I'm so excited to see it again in November!!! It was also my first time getting to see the incredible Courtney Stapleton. I have waited for 7 years to get a chance to see her in a show, as the OG Six cast are the ones who helped me get into Six, and consequently Musical Theatre as a whole and I can't think of a better role to have seen her in for the first time. This role was made for Courtney, so it was incredible to see her in a show so perfect for her.

That was day 2 of my trip to London, the rest should be up soon!!

Telling the same story as a film can be difficult but P&P productions found an innovative way of developing the 2014 release into an emotional rollercoaster of a musical.

Led by the film’s original creative @stephen_beresford - the songs, the script, the orchestration and the acting all came together to create a fantastic gem of the musical. Stand outs that I’m hoping will soon be in a cast recording are DISCO, the soulful anthem "You Stood By Me", the first-act closing choral piece "Bread and Roses", Jonathan's second-act showstopper, and Bromley’s number "I'm Into Guys"

I hope this musical has got a bright future ahead of it. One to watch.
