Earlier this month, I had the honor of doing Pat Mitchell's makeup for a very special night.

Pat was being honored at the National Jewish Health Legends of Atlanta Gala at the Woodruff Arts Center — an evening called A Breath of Fresh Air: A Tribute to Pat Mitchell. Not a celebration of one job or one accomplishment, but of the extraordinary reach of a life.

I've known Pat from a particular vantage point: for years, I've been her makeup artist. I've gotten her ready for public events, book launches, big conversations, and personal moments — brushes in hand while she prepared to walk into rooms where consequential things were about to happen.

We met in 2008 in New Orleans, at V-Day's tenth anniversary. I was running the Beauty Lounge; Pat was on the board. Our worlds kept crossing — V-Day, women's advocacy, Atlanta — until Pat became my client.

In 2019, sitting in my chair, Pat told me about a women's trip to South Africa and said, "You should go." So I went. I listened to women protecting wildlife, leading organizations, changing policy — and when my turn came to introduce myself, I laughed and said, "Well… I make people pretty."

Pat corrected me on the spot: "You do more than that."

And once, when I told her how extraordinary I thought she was, she turned it right back around: "You are the spark."

I've never forgotten it.

Pat has spent her life thinking about who gets seen, whose stories get told, and what those of us with any influence choose to do with it. She led CNN Productions. She became the first woman to run PBS. She helped create TEDWomen. And she's still asking the questions that matter — like this one, which stopped me cold: "At what point does humility become invisibility?"

She almost said no to being honored that night. She said yes because the cause — clean air, environmental health — was worth it. Her conclusion: the intention justified the attention.

I keep coming back to that. The question isn't whether we have influence. It's what we're doing with it.

I wrote more about Pat and what she's taught me — link in bio. 📖

Monday may have been my favorite day so far.

Not just because of Dawes Glacier...(even though it may seriously have been one of the most amazing things I have EVER seen)

Because it ended up being such a full day.

I woke up early to watch us make our way through Endicott Arm. At first there was almost no visibility—just gray skies, fog, and pouring rain. I bundled up in every warm layer I had, headed to the back of the ship so I could see both sides, and settled in.

Little by little, everything started changing.
The waterfalls appeared.
The water turned that unbelievable turquoise.
The icebergs kept getting bigger.
Then we spotted a pod of orcas... including a mama swimming alongside her baby.
And then we rounded the corner.

Nothing prepared me for the scale of Dawes Glacier.

I honestly couldn't get enough.

The ship slowly turned so everyone, no matter where they were, could experience the glacier from every angle. We stayed outside for hours, freezing, soaked, and completely mesmerized. The only thing I wished I had packed was a pair of gloves. 😄
Even after we left the glacier, I found myself right back out on our balcony, watching waterfalls tumble down impossibly steep cliffs as floating ice drifted past.

The day just kept unfolding.

The World Cup became the afternoon's entertainment, with the signal cutting in and out as we sailed through the mountains. England pulled off a big win over Mexico, but watching the U.S. lose was a tough one.

We shared Irish coffees with my brother, I warmed up with a mulled wine, and that night we had another incredible dinner at Rojo. Sorry... no food pictures. We dove in way too fast. 😂

Then Alaska gave us another spectacular sunset.

Seriously... what are the chances?

We finished the evening playing backgammon, watching the sun slowly disappear, and talking about what an unbelievable day it had been.

Tomorrow is our last port before we head back to Seattle... Prince Rupert. I'm looking forward to a slower day, a little wandering, and seeing what we discover next. ❤️

I adopted Graham during finals week of my freshman year of college. Very dumb idea, but it lead to 11 years of a life of love and joy from the best dog ever. Thinking he was only gonna be a lab mix turned into a 100 lb teddy bear. My parents knew this was their dog the minute I brought him home that summer.

Celebrating Graham’s life and being there with him on his last day was so hard, but I’m so incredibly grateful for him. For the happiness loving him brought. I can’t begin to describe how much I loved this boy.

My body pillow, my teddy bear, my sweet sweet boy. I love you forever and always Graham ❤️

Okay… the studio is officially turning into a beauty treasure hunt. 😂🥂

We’ve spent the past week sorting through 18 years of inventory, discontinued favorites, archive products, tester finds, mystery beauty treasures, and SO many eyeshadows.

And honestly?
It’s been emotional, exhausting, exciting, nostalgic, chaotic, beautiful… all at the same time.

Our Champagne & Celebrations weekends are officially happening NOW and there are incredible deals throughout the studio, online shopping with local pickup available, and so many little beauty finds that won’t be returning once they’re gone.

✨ Small shadow pans — $8
✨ Large pans — $10
✨ 3-in-1 foundation specials
✨ Tester deals
✨ Overstock specials
✨ Mystery beauty finds
✨ And so much more throughout the studio

🛍 Shop online:

✨ STUDIO HOURS ✨
Friday • 10:30–6
Saturday • 10:30–3:30
Sunday • 10:30–3:30
Monday • 10:30–6

Also — if you’ve been wanting to come in and really spend time with me one-on-one going through colors, products, makeup, brows, or building your own palette, Sunday and Monday will honestly be the best days to do that because the studio is a little less hectic than my normal client schedule.

Come celebrate with us this weekend. ❤️

After 18 beautiful years at 4674 Roswell Road, Authentic Beauty is entering its next chapter.

What began as a makeup studio became something much deeper — a place where women prepared for weddings, reinventions, motherhood, celebrations, grief, healing, milestones, and everyday life. Over nearly two decades, we’ve had the extraordinary privilege of walking alongside thousands of women through the seasons of their lives.

We are deeply grateful for every client, every conversation, every transformation, and every moment shared inside these walls.

As Authentic Beauty evolves into a smaller, more intentional studio model, our mission remains the same: to help women feel truly seen in their reflection through artistry, connection, education, and authenticity.

Most importantly: Alyson is not going anywhere.

Brows, makeup artistry, The Image Journey, and the continued evolution of Genuist Beauty will all continue — just in a more curated and intentional way.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing: • details about our new studio home • celebration and open house dates • studio archive shopping events • special inventory releases • and more about what’s next for Authentic Beauty

Thank you for being part of these extraordinary 18 years at 4674 Roswell Road.

This is not the end of Authentic Beauty. It’s the beginning of its next evolution.
