POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

After years of working in print magazines, journalist Alyssa Morlacci has carried over many editorial principles from her editor days into her new venture. One of the best parts of shifting from in-house editor to her own Substack, though? Her ability to adapt quickly.

Live feedback from her readers for Suite Escapism, a newsletter “for hotel snobs,” allows her to experiment with content and subject lines. Analytics help her to shape future stories, go deeper on the topics that are most popular and even eliminate what’s not resonating. That’s a big difference from more established well-known print titles, which can be slower to adapt to changes.

This evolving process helps her develop a deeper relationship with her audience. And PR pros who understand this can build a strong relationship with Alyssa, too, by getting to know what she’s most focused on, providing access to key sources, and sharing travel news that will pique her interest.

What she’s most looking for now:

    • Opportunities to review beautiful, distinctive hotels with a strong POV
    • Experienced travelers (including other writers and founders) to feature in a packing feature called Suitcase Swap
    • Interesting travel news like hotel openings and launches
    • Useful products and strategies for her practical travel advice column

What’s something you want to pitch Alyssa? Start a convo with her here 💜

Introducing…. The Substack Swap 💜

Make no mistake: We still love all of these magazines! But there’s a major trust shift happening in lifestyle media. Independent voices are reshaping what storytelling looks like for niche audiences, and that’s why building relationships with Substack authors (and also convincing your clients they’re important!) is a key move for lifestyle PR pros right now.

Seven swaps to consider:

🏡 Veranda ➡️ Gander by @haskellharris

✈️ Travel + Leisure ➡️Suite Escapism by @alyssamorlacci

🌎 Condé Nast Traveler ➡️ Spascape by @devoltv

🗺️ AAA Traveler ➡️ American Weekender by @amycavanaugh & @kenney

👗 Harper’s Bazaar ➡️ The New Front Row by @natashasilvajelly

🎨 Wallpaper* ➡️ What’s Left by @vchamlee

🍽️ Food & Wine ➡️ What to Cook When You Don’t Feel Like Cooking by @carochambers

Consider this your reminder to look beyond traditional publications when deciding where your client’s story could fit.

Which Substack should we feature in the next swap?

No more “I have to go home to my dog,” because she’s coming too!

My friend and I booked a Los Angeles staycation at the @lapeerhotel in West Hollywood because we loved how dog-friendly the property is. They give you water bowls, beds, treats, and there are no pet fees or limits.

Even if you don’t stay at the hotel, l highly recommend dining at Ladyhawk, a Top Chef helmed Mediterranean restaurant with return-worthy mezze boards and cocktails.

I write a biweekly newsletter called Suite Escapism, and this week’s issue will detail all there is to know before you go to Jacumba, a desert town of less than 1,000 people east of San Diego with natural hot springs that have led many to believe it’s an energetic vortex. More to come this Sunday — subscribe through the link in bio. Jacumba Hot Springs Hotel

Less is more, and Alyssa & Ryan’s celebration was a perfect reflection of that philosophy. Keeping the design effortless and refined, we let the beauty of @villa_woodbine shine. Lush olive branch garlands and the warm glow of candlelight set the tone for an intimate affair—organic, chic, and timeless. 🌿
