Portraits I made at Notting Hill Carnival for @dazed, London, 2026

It’s still my favourite weekend in London - thank you once again @nhcarnivalldn for the life you continually inject into my spirit. The way this thing brings people together is so inspiring. Intergenerational connection in ways that no other event can authentically facilitate. Truly is special but I still managed to be impressed year on year 🫶🏾

This time round I took on two commissions, a fashion focused piece for @dazed as well as something more holistic that captures the spirit of Carnival for @service95

I hit some of my usual spots, Channel One, Gladdy Wax and Aba Shanti-I but I also wanted to keep exploring. I think Fraser and I made it to pretty much every stage across the 2 days which meant by the time we were dancing for Aba’s final hour, there wasn’t much left in the tank 😆

We wandered, keeping an eye out for fashion that caught the eye. There’s so much ritual in the clothes people wear at Carnival. From Jab Jab to Mas, as well as the African and Caribbean flags, the streets are filled with carnival-affiliated attire but also just people expressing themselves in quite a cool way. For many, it's an opportunity to honour their ancestry and celebrate the vibrancy and colour that glitters throughout much of Afro-Caribbean style. I was drawn to some in more traditional costumes, but it was those doing things with a twist that turned my head most: the multi-striped string t-shirt, the yellow zebra leggings, the retro rude boy hats, the crocheted beanie, the Jamaica flag worn as a headband.

Thanks to all those we met and photographed. It was a pleasure. Particularly enjoyed running into @bevan_agyemang and the swaggiest family I ever had the pleasure of photographing 👊🏿😅.
