This song “So Much Better (I Yield)” was on repeat in my house in Denver for 8 months as I prepared to move back to Birmingham from Colorado. An ask from the Lord that felt like giving up EVERYTHING.

It was a song I would sing that I initially didn’t fully believe, but the more that I sat in a wilderness season and a time of “loss” the more I had to adopt it as a belief if I trusted that God’s plans were better for me than my own.

“He waited to turn the water to wine because he didn’t want blessings outside of His time”… a line I would repeat over and over trying to believe that he was good in the waiting season and not asking me to move to Birmingham as a punishment.

I say all of this because just 6 months in to being in Birmingham my mind is being absolutely blown. HIS WAYS ARE SO MUCH BETTER!

I have found a richness in community that I didn’t believe was possible. I have found purpose and redemption over my testimony and how He is using my darkest seasons for his glory.
I am being healed of the past by physically being back where I grew up and I say all of these things to shout from the rooftops how good the Lord is.
I’m receiving sweet gifts from my Heavenly Father that I didn’t even know that I needed. BUT GOD.

@runwchristbhm has been a catalyst for me! The community, the mission, the way these people love and show up for each other. This is just a glimpse of their one year celebration.

It was a place to gather, to play, and to experience all the joy from the Lord getting to dance in the rain.

The Spirit was here. The Spirit was moving! I am so honored to get to witness all that the Lord is doing in this place!

I say all of this as a praise for what the Lord has done and as an encouragement to anyone who finds themselves in a season of taking a massive leap of faith into the unknown. Stay tethered to Him. IT IS WORTH THE FAITH TO TRUST HIS PLANS WHEN NOTHING ELSE MAKES SENSE.

BUT GOD.

It has been a month since one of the biggest chapters in my life finished, heralding the arrival of even bigger ones in the future.

This third recital is the final exam for my study in the UK. I am grateful for my progress so far, and I want to work hard for even more progress in the future.

I am thankful for everyone who is involved in and supported the performance: my co-composer Ginevra House, @kurisup @amanda_dc29 @jrpeas and Gamelan Sekar Petak.

Here are some snippets from the show:
Slide 1: the performers

Slide 2: the audience

Slide 3: the journey to the frozen hell with Charon, the oarman of Styx.

Slide 4: ngl I have a bittersweet feeling with 'Rivolgete'. I want to keep on working on it and perform it better next time

Slide 5: 'Se tradirmi' initially was just a fun idea between me and Amanda. This athletic duet definitely needs a revisit in the future.

Slide 6: I love the aria sooo much that it excruciatingly annoys me to this day how I was so careless at the crucial end despite the smooth practices. I want to sing it every now and then although it is not (yet?) suitable for my fach.

Slide 7: the dramatic opening of 'The Love of My Own', the first song of Bhishma, the song cycle that Ginevra and I composed.

Slide 8: transition toward the second song, 'I Remember Her'. The war conch horn was so brilliant, the Kodhok Ngorek pattern was so majestic, I just can't 😍.

Slide 9: transition toward the last song, 'Truth'. This was my favourite part of the song cycle. Ginevra ingeniously juxtaposed the chaos of warzone with the serenity of Bhishma's last moment.

Slide 10: the ending of the cycle. Bhishma's death was so peaceful, colorfully portrayed by the silence and the reverb from the gendér's last notes.
