Assembly Collaging found, discarded or collected objects.   Three artists working with idea of collaging forms, where everyday materials, found, discarded or collected are brought together. We are very excited to be showing beautiful work by Amanda Benson.  @amandabensonstudio The handmade is integral to the way I work. The process is deliberately evident in my sculptures which thrive in the use of everyday materials. Beyond Horizons visited @closeltd, to see owner @freeny_yianni, who is one of our curators and selectors. Lucky to catch Forget Me Not, a photography exhibition about the nuanced, personal connections, a riposte to the short attention span of today’s society. Sensual, contemplative, and all beautifully installed in spaces that Freeny designed, having a background in architecture. Artworks in the grounds and house include dramatic sculptures by @alastairandfleurmackie @simonhitchens @magnus_hammick1 @helenbarff @amystephensstudio @amandabensonstudio , and delicate work by @susanna_bauer. Last night at the @ingdiscerningeye! Starting with the obligatory photo of an overexcited artist (me) next to my work and then moving on to a few faves. There was so much great work and packed room of people so it was difficult to see everything, let alone get halfway decent photos. All the work is for sale, a fantastic way to get a truly unique Christmas present and support a living artist at the same time! Apologies to those artists whose work appears in my photos and I haven’t tagged. I wasn’t able to tag the wonderful painting by #harrietmena_hill which is next to the equally exquisite painting by Mandy Payne (both prize winners!) GROTTO (if it ain’t baroque don’t fix it) studio1.1 London 8th December 2006 - 14th January 2007 As part of my solo show @studio1.1_london I’ve selected a poster of a group show that was held in the gallery between 8th December 2006 - 14th January 2007. It’s a ready made. It’s been pinned on a wall in the gallery (in the toilet to be precise) since that show took place. It’s a historical document, a time capsule, a short moment when these particular artists came together (some physically in the space, others just by the contribution of their work). I love looking at old lists of artists in group shows, trying to plot subsequent trajectories. Since that time, these artists have all carried on individual careers and lives. Some have continued as artists, some have not, some have passed away, others have disappeared (at least from the searching I’ve done on the internet). And, that my name is included in this list, it is given a greater meaning. I’m here now with my solo show; I managed to keep making art; I’m still going. A journey is continuing. This poster also acts as a companion piece to the QR code drawing that leads you to @here_is_where_we_were, an account that also picks out moments in time, with fifteen second meetings between artists. It’s a show about these sorts of things. Deadline fast approaching! ⏳🏃 The Irving Open Call is still open to submissions, however, the deadline is this Sunday 9th November (11.59pm) so do get your skates on if you haven’t yet registered and sent your submission! All information is on the website under Open Call. It has been wonderful to see the submissions as they come in, and I’m super excited about this exhibition, which will open with a preview on Saturday 31st January, 3pm-6pm, when we will announce which of the selected artists will be awarded a solo show at the gallery in 2027. I’m sharing some photos here of the Irving Open Call exhibition in March, when Jo Berry was selected as the winner, and she will have a solo show at Irving Gallery next summer. 📍Opens today! Complimenting and celebrating the meticulous restoration of Sherborne House, Recurring Intricacies unites photography, ceramics, papercuts and sculpture created by three female artists: Helen Sear, Charlotte Hodes and Amanda Benson. All three are captivated by craft, each producing artworks that activate and evoke a spectrum of feelings through our viewing habits. Our newly restored Grade I listed townhouse, rooted in a vibrant Georgian heritage and preserved for the nation, has inspired their remarkable, thoughtful, and playful interventions. Helen Sear was elected a Royal Academician in 2024. Her practice emphasises the coexistence of human, animal, and natural environments. Photography remains a pivotal subject and medium in her work, often challenging the dominance of the eye and the fixed-point perspective associated with the camera lens. Charlotte Hodes is a London-based artist and Professor of Fine Art whose work highlights her longstanding engagement with the intersections of fine and decorative arts, utilising craft processes to create imagery firmly rooted in the language of painting. Similarly, the handmade is integral to sculptor Amanda Benson’s work; the process of making is consciously evident in her sculptures, which thrive on everyday materials. Her abstract forms embody organic minimalism as she constructs obsessive matrices, weaving and reconfiguring while shaping space itself in wildly fractal ascents. The Irving Open 2025 closed in the gallery last weekend, but this incredible and varied exhibition remains available to view online, and all the works will be available to purchase until midnight this coming Bank Holiday Easter Monday.
