It was so much fun curating Iron and Indigo with @julia.clift @utopiaupstate and a total gift to get to know these artists. If you missed it, Iron and Indigo will be up through July 11th!

This week, I had a story in the New York Times #RealEstate section about the distinctive sidewalk canopies in Kingston, NY's historic Stockade District that were erected in the 1970s and — to the delight of some and the grief / fury of others — torn down last month.

Not everyone agreed with everything every source said, but there was one thing a lot of people could agree on (see slide 3).

#kingstonny #pikeplan #hudsonvalley @gokateshoot's photos are great.

Local Kingston friends and neighbors featured in today’s @nytimes article!! It’s the end of our canopies era. Thank you shout-out to @hollowwalls + @gokateshoot! Also, follow @fhkingston for more historic reveals😍

I love being part of this exhibit with these artists up through January 17, 2026 @utopiaupstate. Here’s some pics from the fun opening night. Will share more of the artworks including my sculptures in window, back shelf and some works on paper racks. We paused and acknowledged our friend, the wonderful artist Cotter Luppi who unexpectedly passed away a couple of weeks before the exhibition’s opening. Thinking of him often and how his great energy comes through in his work @cotterluppi, as in the works Mandolyn selected. I know she had a great studio visit with him and has celebrated his work in many ways. 💛🌈💫 some photos here including one with Cotter’s beautiful wife. His daughter was also there.
“COTTER LUPPI was born in New York City and lived and worked in Ghent, New York. The loving community surrounding him is inspiring to behold. Luppi’s work centered on richly textured color-pencil and graphite drawings. Two works were selected by the artist and curator in studio and are currently on view…”

Utopia presents A GNAWING THOUGHT:
Natalie Beall / Todd Bourret / Kerry Downey / Georgia Elrod / Rachel Jackson / Jenny Kemp / Elisa Lendvay / Cotter Luppi / Rita MacDonald / Adrian Meraz / Valerie Piraino / Padma Rajendran / Mandolyn Wilson Rosen / Michelle Rosenberg / Adie Russell / Nancy Shaver / Amy Talluto / Christina Tenaglia
Curated by Mandolyn Wilson Rosen @mandolyn_rosen

an exhibition which examines “near-symmetry” as a site of rebellion. The artists represented here have a love-hate relationship with visual symmetry and all the many implications it may hold. The exhibition brings together works by 18 New York-based artists, most of whom reside in the Hudson Valley. Included works lean toward, flirt with and resist the coercive pull of symmetrical binaries and resolve instead into something close but not quite — retaining a kernel of imbalance, tension or mutation which gives them life.

Utopia is located at 35 North Front Street, Kingston
Winter hours Friday and Saturday 12 — 5 . I like this poster designed by @ritamacdonald ❣️

“A Gnawing Thought,” curated by Mandolyn Wilson Rosen opened at @utopiaupstate run by our beloved @amandaluciacote in Kingston this weekend! Here are some pics of the opening and some installation images.

In this exhibition about “near” symmetry, Mandolyn curated 2 of my new Sculpey/mixed media sculptures based on Ingres’ Princess de Broglie with reversed eyes into the show

The gallery is open Fri and Sat, 12-5 thru Jan 17 ✨

There are affordable small works installed in the book shelves and flat files too 🖤

Pungent Pollen brings together artists who challenge and reimagine traditional approaches to abstract art. Through an intuitive blend of gestural expression and geometric construction, these pieces emerge not from strict adherence to form but from a deep, tactile relationship with the act of making. At the heart of the work is a love for materiality: rough textures, vivid pigments, translucent layers, and reclaimed surfaces.
