Swimming has always been a big part of my life, from YMCA lessons to collegiate meets - but since joining the Peace Corps, my time in the water has been few and far between. In rural Eastern Thailand, swimming isn’t a main priority: few pools, minimal lifeguards, and low local interest. I had made peace with that… until a fellow volunteer invited me to co-host a swim camp!

With support from local EMTs and the Subdistrict Office, students learned water safety, CPR, and rescue basics - plus swimming fundamentals like floating, gliding, and strokes. Through games, relays, and hands-on practice, the camp was a huge success!

Now, students will continue with a two-month swim club to build confidence and skill. Teaching swimming to Thai students has been such an unexpected joy. It’s one of my greatest passions and an essential life skill that isn’t always accessible in this region. STL 💛💙
