“Granny’s Gamble” 🪭♠️🎰👠

Thank you to my burlesque showgirls and Elvis dancing my Granny’s dazzling life story with your glamour, swing, and Elvis moves. Not only do I love watching their big & bold dancing, but I love watching the crowd’s reaction go wild. I’m proud to see my cast’s confidence and flair grow throughout my senior chor piece, and Granny is honored that my cast is retelling her stories through dance! ❤️🖤

✨ Once Upon a Dance ✨

Step into a world where movement becomes myth and stories are written in the stars.

One of the featured works in Once Upon a Dance draws inspiration from the Pleiades constellation and the many cultures across the globe that tell stories of the legendary “Seven Sisters.” With John Dixon’s powerful choreography, this piece explores how ancient and contemporary stories shape the way we navigate conflict, hold onto hope, and seek human connection.

🌌 Experience an evening of storytelling, myth, and breathtaking dance that bridges past and present.

“the Kore of our womanhood: Persephone’s Story” 🥀

i can’t believe our rehearsal process has come to an end. i am so grateful to have been granted this opportunity and work with this amazing group. i have been developing this specific piece for just over a year, been applying since 2024, and dreamt of choreographing for a Lossein Playhouse Production since my first month at ECU. here is a little accumulation of my favorite videos from choreography labs, my applications, and rehearsals to give insight on this process. happy night one of tech week!!! 🖤

thank you to my mentor for this project @jessinamst for all your guidance and my choreographic teacher @johndadixon for all your wisdom🤍

SENIOR CHOREOGRAPHER SPOTLIGHT
⭐️AMARA BARNES⭐️

Amara Barnes is a Senior Dance Performance and Choreography major at East Carolina University. Amara has previously performed in Fall and Spring Dance 2024. Amara hopes to perform and make people smile in any capacity she finds after graduation. She has loved learning to perform and choreograph at East Carolina University since 2022 and can’t wait for what is to come.

“Escape Room” has been so fun to work on with this talented cast. In this piece I took time to dive into what made me fall in love with dance. As children, we don’t get much control over what is happening to us. In these times, dance was my escape, the physical place that took me away, the mental place that allowed me to feel free and understood. Dance saved me from the room that I could no longer bear. I created this piece to take the audience away from their burdens, just like dance did for me.

Come out and see Amara’s high energy and exciting dance piece December 13th at 4 & 8 pm or December 14th at 12 & 4 pm in the Archie Burnette Studio Theatre!💖💄⭐️
