@belltownblast is just so cool. Always amazing to watch how much can be accomplished by artists making murals. These are some but not all in progress and completed.

@alleycatzseattle 1 year strong 💪🏼

If you come by @belltownblast this weekend wander over to the alley behind @base.camp.studios 2 and discover a world of colorful cats, painted over the last year to bring new life to the seedy underbelly of Seattles alley culture.

“Beautiful and graceful, varied and enchanting, small but approachable, butterflies lead you to the sunny side of life. And everyone deserves a little sunshine.” Jeffrey Glassberg 🦋

There is a whole lot of new sunshine on 3rd Avenue between Westlake Station and Pike Place Market on the stretch between Stewart and Union which is quickly and colloquially becoming known as the “Butterfly Blocks.” 40 artists, fabricators, and producers collaborated with 1,400 community members to create more than 1,111 individual public art pieces.

This project has been in the cocoon since October of 2025. Mini murals, massive murals, light art, sculpture, string installations, pressure wash art, window graphics - all with references to butterflies and flowers - make up our special kaleidoscope residing downtown.

Base Camp worked with @seattledot, @seattledcc, and @downtownseattle on the project, with @creativityinacan conducting the chaotic whimsy cruise that helped all of the butterflies find their place. He will also lead maintainance.

A major contributor and inspiration to the theme of the project was artist @nasecase. The 1000 butterflies spotted on awnings the entire length of the Butterfly Blocks were a result of her ongoing community project @true.butterfly.effect that reminds us our individual small acts of kindness and expressions of beauty can reverberate powerfully through our communities

Special thanks to @films.about.artists for capturing this beautiful documentation; to @suneevasaldanha for speaking about her Dahlia motif; and to Julia who played a critical part in the planning process
