We lost our dear, dear Trout last night and the day is sad and empty without him. He was the sweetest cat I’ve ever known, not a mean bone in his body, very shy around everyone else, but loved us and our other cats so much, and we loved him. He also loved lying in the sun, catnip, affection, accompanying me outside while I did yard work, lying on my lap. In the winter, he was a warm little heater when he did that. I’m heartbroken, but I know he had a good life and I guess that’s all any of us can ask for. I’ll love you forever, Trout 💔

I once wrote a short story set on a tropical farm, but I had never been to one. Today I got to spend time on a subtropical farm, Amar’s uncle’s. It was very, very nice.

Outside, I walk towards the edge of the parking lot. All around me are cats and dogs, even some chickens. The asphalt is seething with the strays of paradise.
