📍Book Review

Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse is about a young man who leaves behind his comfortable life in search of peace, wisdom, and a deeper understanding of himself. He believes that the truth of life cannot simply be learned from others, but must be discovered through his own experiences.

As Siddhartha moves through different stages of life, he experiences desire, love, wealth, failure, and suffering. Each experience teaches him something that no book or teacher could have taught him alone.

What I love about this book is how it shows that sometimes we have to get lost in life to understand ourselves better. The answers we keep searching for outside often begin to make sense when we learn to listen to ourselves.

In the end, Siddhartha reminds us that wisdom is not something we can force or find overnight. It comes with time, experience, and the patience to understand life as it is.

Feeling low on a hard day doesn’t mean you’ve lost hope.

Hope is simply the part of you that still believes tomorrow can look different from today. It doesn’t need to be loud, and you don’t need to feel strong to have it.

My book, The Hope Habit, is now live on Amazon. Link in bio.

Starry Starry Murder by Yazad Aria

The story begins at an old lodge where a murder takes place, and interestingly, both the victim and all the suspects are staying there.

Two things happen on the same day: a theft and a murder. Somehow, the two incidents seem connected, even though they aren't quite what they appear to be.
Before everything unfolds, we meet Sam, who is staying at the lodge while recovering from malaria and enjoying some time surrounded by nature. The other guests have their own reasons for being there, but little do they know how complicated things are about to get.

Among the guests are a couple. One wife loves her husband more than she loves herself, while the husband is still in love with his ex-girlfriend. And the ex-girlfriend? She still loves him too, but she knows that what she's doing is wrong.
Everyone has secrets, everyone has motives, and almost everyone seems to want the same thing: the Star, an old jewel. As greed, secrets, and complicated relationships collide, everything spirals out of control. A theft and a murder occur on the same day, leaving everyone under suspicion.

Now, it's up to Sam to uncover the truth and find the killer. But with so many secrets and motives tangled together, figuring out who is responsible isn't going to be easy!

Book Review: The Reset Mindset by Penny Zenker

Sometimes, the problem is not the situation itself, but the way we keep thinking about it.

That’s the thought I took away from The Reset Mindset by Penny Zenker.

What I liked about this book is its idea that we don't always need to push harder, think more, or keep fighting the same battle. Sometimes, we just need to pause, step back, look at things from a different perspective, and realign ourselves.

The three steps of the reset practice, Step Back, Get Perspective, and Realign, make the concept simple and practical. I also liked the emphasis on owning our focus, accepting change, and understanding that failure can be feedback rather than the end of the road.

One thing that stood out to me is the idea that progress doesn't mean being perfect. We often waste so much energy trying to get everything right that we forget to move forward. Sometimes, a small change in our thinking can make a big difference in how we handle a situation.

However, if you have read a lot of self-help books, some ideas may feel familiar. The real value lies in how honestly you apply them to your own life.

For me, this book is a reminder that we don't always need a completely new plan or a dramatic change. Sometimes, we just need a reset.

My takeaway: When things aren't working, don't keep repeating the same approach blindly. Pause, rethink, and try again with a clearer perspective.

Because sometimes, moving forward doesn't require more effort. It requires a different way of looking at things.

Recommended for: Anyone who feels stuck in the same patterns, struggles with overthinking or perfectionism, or wants to become more intentional about where they put their energy.

QOTD: What is one thing in your life you feel you need to reset right now?

When I picked up Yaksha Prashna: Mahabharata’s Dharma Dialogues by Arun Tiwari, I expected to read about an interesting episode from the Mahabharata, but I found something much deeper. The book explores some of life’s most meaningful questions about truth, righteousness, duty, and human nature. I liked how it made me pause and think about things we often overlook in our everyday lives.

The story revolves around Yudhishthira and the mysterious Yaksha, who asks him a series of questions when his brothers’ lives are at stake. Through these questions and Yudhishthira’s thoughtful answers, the book explores wisdom, morality, humility, and the meaning of a good life. What I found most interesting was how these ancient questions still feel relevant today, reminding me that true wisdom lies not just in knowledge but also in how we live and treat others.

Overall, I found Yaksha Prashna to be a thoughtful and meaningful read. It is the kind of book that encourages you to slow down, reflect on your choices, and look at life from a different perspective. I would recommend it to readers who enjoy Indian mythology, philosophy, and stories that offer lessons beyond their pages. For me, its real beauty lies in the questions it leaves behind long after the reading is over.

Just imagine this - a snow-covered lodge in Shimla, a frozen lake...a woman found dead and a priceless jewel that has mysteriously disappeared. Sounds quite bizarre, right? And honestly, that is exactly what pulled me in.

What I loved most was how the story kept making me suspicious of absolutely everyone. I would decide, Yep...this person did it, and then, well, two pages later, I wasn’t so sure anymore. One line here was very loud, “I believed him. I believed her too. I don't know why. I just did.” Somehow, that perfectly captured my own predicament while reading this book.

Another line that stayed with me was, “I learned to study what drove people, what motivated them, where their pressure points were..” I really liked this because the mystery isn’t merely about clues; it is about understanding people.

And then there was this wonderfully contemplative line: “...the only question that remained unanswered was which field of service I would commit my own life too.” I mean, these little lines gave the story more texture.

For me, a good book should make you suspicious, curious, and just a little restless. This one certainly did.

Sometimes hope feels heavy instead of comforting, especially when you have been waiting a long time for things to change.

Feeling tired is not a failure. It is your mind and heart telling you they need some care too.

You are allowed to choose what's good for you, and it never means you cared any less.

Starry Starry Murder is a back-to-the-basics, investigative mystery that stays true to its roots through and through. Set in nascent India, Shimla of 1960s, the story allows Sam Contractor, a police officer, to unlayer the mystery without the crutches of technology. And that's so refreshing in the world of sleek gadgets and smartphones.

But this is not just an investigative crime thriller. Three things set it apart:
1) The intense, tempestuous love that runs through the story, anchoring it to the emotional core of the readers.
2) The continuous infusion of comedy into the narrative, probably inspired from PG Wodehouse, one of the favourite authors of Aria.
3) The post-colonial, 1960s atmospherics with a dash of nostalgia. It's giving a very Bombay Velvet (but in Shimla) meets Agatha Christie vibes. To the readers evrything is alien, not in spirit but in time (that's why books are called time machines.)

So what's actually the story about? An exquisite jewel gets stolen and a girl is shot dead. Who killed her? There are many suspects, all trapped in a lodge. What happens next? Well, I'm not going to tell you everything here. Pick up the book and find out yourself.

The fact that the story is told in hindsight adds that extra dose of nostalgia.
