The Inverted Balance Kick

Most trainers teach a balance kick where your shooting side leg kicks toward the rim. It keeps your body controlled and squares up your shooting elbow. @amauro0 is a lefty, so normally that’s his left leg and we’ve trained it that way plenty.

This time we flipped it.

He’s jumping off his left foot lands and that becomes the post. Foot, hip, shoulder, elbow and ball all stay stacked in one line so the shot comes straight up.

Instead of the left leg, his right leg swings out against his left arm. The two cancel each other out so his body doesn’t keep turning. It’s harder to do and it forces him to control his whole body a little more.

A lot of times when a shooter over rotates with the same side leg, the miss goes that way. For a lefty like Anthony, that means his shoulders keep turning open and the ball misses right. The inverted kick takes that turning out of it.

It’s rare, but you’ll see guys like @shai use it. The goal isn’t to replace the standard kick. It’s so that if a moment comes in a game where he needs it, his body has already felt it because we trained it.

15 straight NBA 3s. AFTER the workout. 💯

@fairfieldmbb commit @amauro0 went through a workout I purposely made him struggle with. Demanding footwork, off balance shooting and reps that made him fight to find his shot.

Then we finished with catch and shoot 3s from NBA range and he proceeds to knock down 15 in a row.

Legs tired. Shot still there. Standards still there.

“Tired” doesn’t get a vote with him. 😤

He didn’t chase his dream.

He caught it.

One of the most exciting players in HS hoops, @amauro0 has committed to Fairfield. This is a HUGE W for the Stags and further solidifies the NJ to CT pipeline after the addition of @_jb00giee this year.
