A scrapbook of Morocco 🇲🇦

I’m so grateful I got to perform w/ @dancetheatreofharlem at the @theatre_royal_de_rabat. It’s such a honor to be the first dance company to grace that beautiful theatre. I can’t wait to come back again soon. Inshallah 🤞🏾

Rabat Recap ✨🇲🇦

Our company had a wonderful time performing last week at @theatre_royal_de_rabat in Morocco.

We are grateful to Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, and to Artistic Director Brahim El Mazned, whose vision and generosity brought our dancers to Rabat. This marks the beginning of a long lasting relationship we will build upon for years to come.

We were honored to be joined by Rose Custis, Senior Cultural Diplomacy Officer at the U.S. Embassy and an Arts Ambassador, during our time in Morocco.

Rose is also a proud Dance Theatre of Harlem School alumna. Her journey in the arts includes training through the DTH Kennedy Center Residency, and she continues use the arts as a bridge between cultures and communities around the world.

Thank you, Morocco 🇲🇦🫶🏾

So honored to be one of the first dancers to perform on the @theatre_royal_de_rabat stage as @dancetheatreofharlem returned to Africa for the first time in over 30 years.

From the incredible hospitality and all the couscous I could eat to shopping in the souks, Morocco was an absolute delight ☺️

Until next time, Morocco! 🇲🇦

At Dance Theatre of Harlem we believe that as dancers & artists we are part of something greater than ourselves. Today, as we celebrate National Dance Day we also honor & remember our founder, Arthur Mitchell, by reflecting on what dance means to us on the eighth anniversary of his passing.

“It is up to the artist to go out into the community, share their craft, enlighten people, & have them then come into the theatre.” -Arthur Mitchell

Without the dedication, perseverance & guidance of Arthur Mitchell we would not be where we are today— breaking barriers, inspiring the next generation of dancers, & expanding the minds on what ballet is and can be. Arthur Mitchell’s extraordinary legacy continues to live on through Dance Theatre of Harlem & his vision of a brighter future for inclusivity in ballet remains at the pinnacle of why we dance.

Thank you, Mr. Mitchell, for inspiring us, believing in us, and dedicating your magnificent career as a teacher, dancer and leader to the community & future of dance. We honor & remember you not just today, but everyday we step into the studio & grace the stage. 💙
