The Octopus is back. 🐙

This fabric first made its appearance in my Summer Collection last July, and now it returns for a very special commission.

One art journal that will be shared by two artists,.

Crafted using their favorite paper texture: Cold Press for one and Hot Press for the other. How fun is that?

And I have to say, it was great to have this Octopus fabric on my binding table once again!

🌊 The Seashell Trio 🌊

This commissioned trio tells the story of an artist’s love for the sea.

A perfect summer set, handcrafted in my classic landscape and medium formats, and finished with ShadowLight Binding’s signature magnetic closure.

Each journal is bound using premium artist-grade watercolor papers, including Arches Hot Press and Saunders Waterford Cold Press.

Every artist has their own way of creating, with favorite materials and details that inspire their work.

Through a custom commission, you can choose the details that matter most—your ideal size, the format, the paper you love to work with, or even a special fabric that holds meaning for you.

Together, we can create a journal that reflects your vision and supports your creative journey.

What details would you choose for your dream sketchbook?

After taking a month-long break, it feels great to finally be catching up on the commissions I had to pause back in June.

These two custom Saunders Waterford watercolor journals are among the projects I’ve been most excited to return to. The artist supplied these gorgeous floral fabrics for the covers, and seeing them come together with the handcrafted journals has been such a joy.

They’re almost finished and nearly ready to make their way to their very patient owner.

Stay tuned—I’ll be sharing the finished journals tomorrow!

One of the things I love most about creating custom journals is how personal the process becomes.

For this commission, the artist selected Saunders Waterford Cold Press watercolor paper and even sent the floral fabrics that will become the covers of the books. ✨

Custom projects allow artists to create something that fully aligns with their creative vision, from paper texture and format to the smallest details.

At ShadowLight Binding, I have always believed a journal should feel inspiring even before the first page is painted.

Tomorrow I’ll share the finished journals with you. ✨

Have you ever tried graphite on artist-grade hot press watercolor paper?

An art journal can become whatever you need it to be.

A place to explore an idea,
to collect memories,
or to follow a theme that inspires you.

This one was created for a whimsical, surreal world,
with Fabriano Artistico cold press watercolor paper.

What would you fill your journal with?

More info 👇👇👇

This artist envisioned two different journals to accompany her art journaling practice.

One for whimsical, fantastical, surreal watercolors, with a unicorn fabric cover paired with Fabriano Artistico cold press.

The other for graphite work, with a black and white floral cover crafted with Arches hot press paper.

I love creating a journal around the artist’s vision.

Stay tuned for the progress!🤩

This custom piece started from a once-loved housecoat.
The Dalmatian pattern carries the memory of a beloved companion.

I especially love working on projects like this… pieces with a story.

Now it lives on as a Canson mixed media sketchbook…
cozy, familiar… just like the housecoat.

This is what custom work looks like.

It begins with the artist’s vision, with the freedom to choose every detail, from the format to the watercolor paper and the closure.

In this case, one book is crafted with Arches Cold Press, the other with Saunders Waterford Cold Press, both wrapped in cotton fabrics with a coastal pattern inspired by her love for the sea.

I brought all the elements together by hand.
The result is a book that feels personal from the very first moment.

Stay tuned, a new project is coming tomorrow.
