On tour with @americanpatchworkquartet I play a lot of American folk music and I was introduced to Simple Gifts through @clayrossmusic and as a Carnatic musician , I hear it with these gamakas or ornamentation. Elder Joseph Brackett wrote it in Maine in 1848, three years after Patnam Subramania Iyer was born in South India. So I let them meet: Simple Gifts flowing into Raghuvamsa Sudha in raga Kadanakuthuhalam, on one violin. 🎻
What other melodies from across the world should meet next?
