Rocksmith: The Streewear Brand Where Tokyo Met New York Hip-Hop Sensibility Rocksmith is a Japanese-born streetwear label with deep roots in New York hip-hop. The brand was launched in 2003 by @djmasterkey , one of Japan’s pioneering hip-hop DJs who spent years in New York during the culture’s golden era. His nickname, “Rocksmith,” came from the idea of a locksmith who makes keys — a nod to his stage name Masterkey and his role in unlocking dancefloors. That story set the tone for the brand’s mix of music and fashion. From the beginning, Rocksmith’s concept was about “wearable sound” — clothes that carried rhythm, energy, and attitude. It fused Tokyo’s sharp design sensibilities with the grit and confidence of New York nightlife. Lookbooks and graphics often borrowed from mixtapes, Japanese pop iconography, and ‘90s hip-hop references. With designers Erik (graphics) and @kenshin.design (cut-and-sew), Rocksmith kept evolving, balancing youthful, bold styles with cleaner, more mature pieces for older fans. The brand also backed music directly. Rocksmith believed in Kendrick Lamar early in his career, even before good kid, m.A.A.d city broke him into the mainstream. In 2011, Rocksmith financed and produced Kendrick’s “A.D.H.D” music video, directed by Vashtie. As Rocksmith grew, it collaborated with icons like Wu-Tang Clan and Wale, introduced its ninja motif, and balanced youthful boldness with cleaner fits for older fans. Unlike mainstream urban labels such as Rocawear or Sean John, Rocksmith stayed close to boutique culture, which kept its authenticity intact. By the 2010s, the brand had expanded to the U.S. and Europe, becoming a global name while holding onto its underground credibility.

I just read an amazing post on @atlantafx Season 3 by @geordanbriscoe a (super dope creative). Her post Inspired me to briefly speak on it. This season is only 2 episodes in and it’s amazing. I forgot how this show recreates real moments built around these created characters. It’s like an alternative Universe mixed with reality and possibilities. The first episode focuses on “The Hart Family Massacre” and the second “Black Pete”. Google both and go watch the episodes. Beautifully written, directed and portrayed. If a show can make you laugh, angry, happy and sad it’s doing it’s job. Emotional Rollercoaster. Salute everyone involved. #Brilliant @donaldglover
