“I hate it when I get to do fun workouts with my friends in a slick environment with coaches instructing me exactly what to do so I’m safe and don’t get hurt so that I can get ridiculously strong, toned, fast, athletic, while also improving my cardio, stamina, mobility, and strength in a way to make me more functional in my life that dramatically lowers any risk of chronic illness.” I FREAKING HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS!! The “CrossFit gets you hurt” narrative is so ridiculous and unfortunately the result of bad coaches from decades ago. Because CrossFit gained so much popularity so fast, any and everyone was a CrossFit coach at some point, and there was a lot of media attention from all angles. The masses didn’t understand the part in the definition or CrossFit where it says “at relative intensity”. All they heard was “intensity” and thought that meant slinging barbells around while flailing on a pullup bar until your lungs bleed. That not CrossFit. That’s irresponsible training. Every piece of CrossFit literature and teaching starts with Mechanics > Consistency > then (and only then) Intensity. They teach strict muscle-ups at the CF L-1, not kipping. They start with a PVC pipe and then progress to an empty bar. I’ve never received so much instruction, coaching, and feedback as I have inside of a CrossFit gym. Never once did I receive that at a traditional gym, group HIIT class, and any other non-CrossFit group fitness, HIIT, rowing, strength, functional fitness, generic class that I’ve been to in the last 13 years. CrossFit’s coaching is unrivaled. It’s the most effective way to improve almost every single measurable metric in your life. It’s dangerous NOT to do CrossFit. #crossfitoyl #crossfit #haslettx #justintx #gym

Your calendar says “gym” but you know it’s so much more. You protect that one hour everyday beyond what others see as reasonable. They don’t understand why you can’t just miss one workout today. They don’t understand why you keep saying it’s “more than just a gym.” They don’t understand why you “enjoy” suffering. They don’t understand what it’s like to desire to be better, to do hard things, and to grow. Some people may never understand, but you do. You know how sacred that 60 minute time slot is on the calendar. You know it’s non-negotiable. You know its benefit. You know you’re better because of it. We’ll see you back here tomorrow☺️ #crossfitoyl #crossfit #gym #haslettx #justintx

March Member of the Month ⭐️ Annamarie Kamppi ⭐️ Our MOTM nominee comes from all the Coaches here at OYL. Here’s what her coaches had to say about her: “Annamarie works very hard and is always trying to better herself. She has grown so much here and is strong!! (Stronger than she even knows) All of her coaches think she is such an amazing example to her kids who are usually here watching her do hard things!” “You will never see her without a smile on her face, she is the first to say hello, and she is always willing to stick around and chat with others after the workout. Annamarie is the best spotter, cheerleader, friend, and encourager!” Annamarie, OYL is so grateful for you, your family, and all that you do and give to our community here.
