just shy of 96 years, my grandma passed away last night.
i can’t figure out how to process it still. i’ve cried. but not enough. i’m mourning. but not enough. i just don’t know how to think. or what to do.

Family & Community have always been the utmost important things to me, & she provided that to us all. she taught me אהבת חינם the real meaning of Acceptance.
If a child fell out of line, she wouldn’t care. she would embrace any stumble because they are her child, & supporting family meant more to her than any trip up. And that’s love. she loved us all for who we are and all we are. and her family, her community, would always mirror that same love in return. she lived a long and fruitful life and carried along her love and acceptance and stories through each decade. i still never learned from her how to play Bridge, but her lesson of unconditional love will continue to pass through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren..

i wrote her and gave her this poem a few months ago. and i know it meant something to her. I know she felt proud.
and we will always feel proud of her, proud to have known her for the time we were allowed. and that pride will continue to infinity.

Judaism is full of symbolism & follows a lunisolar calendar. being born around a new moon phase and passing on a new moon, i know that means something. i don’t know what. but i know it does.

Grandma, you’re so special. thank you for nurturing us. for watching us grow. and helping us bloom. I hope Hashem will plants your seeds of blossom in the garden of eden and set many picnics with plava cake for you and Eli.
I’m at peace knowing you’re reunited with your love, your home.

you will always be our home ❤️

In 2018 I started publicly posting my poetry and started writing my own book. A year later, @hernameisbanks released her own #GenerationsOfWomenFromTheMoon 💛 My theme is “love & loyalty” and through my words, she’s always been such a big inspiration. She’s my little mother. It’s been a literal dream of mine to be able to be to see her poems in person and hear her recite them. As a poet, today meant the world to me. & tomorrow being 11yrs to the day since I first discovered her & her music makes it even more special 💛 dear little girl you are my world, like the stars and moon, born whole fully souled. since day one let’s keep growing. love yewwww 💛💛💛

אֲנִי שְׁלֵמָה - I Am Whole

for the Liliths that stood before me
born bearing the weights of those projectors
the ones who do not protect us
forced to be a product of their lectures
You are not their narrative

for the Liliths that stood before me
overshadowed by luminosities
overlooked by those curiosities
and objectified by their furiousities
You are not their property

for the Liliths that stood before me
muted in their whispers
disputing with those resisters
trying so hard to reflect passed the mirror
You are not silent

for the Liliths that stood before me
You are warriors

i walk mother eretz as she bore me
i carry her strength as You gave to us
in my steps i scratch the stars
and catch the scars which brush my souls
my soles see You and they listen to Your prints
the marks in Your heart and under Your skin

for the Liliths that stood before me
You gave me a glimpse of how to live
You gave me a glimpse of how to self-forgive

for the Liliths that stood before me
when i close my eyes and say Baruch atah Adonai
i hear Your cries and know that i am here for Your lives

they tried to blame You
they tried to shame You
they tried to break You apart
but with each try, You smiled with ani shleimah

with each grin with grit in Your teeth
You did not fall to the knees of Your grief
You did not allow them to escape as thieves

for the Liliths that stood before me
i stay here for You as You live within me
i wear Your words and i wear Your voices
i wear Your lessons and i wear Your choices
when they try to break me i bear Your mortar
and i speak the words that made me ani shleimah
as i will bear to Your daughters
