Hozoviotissa Monastery, Amorgos, Cyclades 🇬🇷
The iconic monastery that face a cliff and have 5 meters maximum wide.

Hozoviotissa Monastery is one of the most famous landmarks of Greece 🇬🇷 It was built in the 11th century, around 1017, by Byzantine monks. According to tradition, the monastery was founded after an icon of the Virgin Mary arrived on Amorgos from Palestine. The monks built the monastery into the steep cliffs to protect the icon and create a safe place for worship.

Over the centuries, it has been restored several times. Today, it remains an important religious site and attracts many visitors because of its history, architecture and spectacular views of the Aegean Sea 🌊
