Had a great time at Tap Cancer Out today! I got 3rd in my bracket. Lost my first match and won the second both by belly down armbar 😅 this was my first win in blue belt division and first win by submission ever (edit: wait I forgot I got a RNC in my very first novice match, it’s been so long) so I’m pretty happy just to know it’s possible haha. Also shout out to my girl @meganbyrne_ for wrecking shop in her division and taking gold!! Couldn’t have done it without all the coaching @grappling_ant thank you as always!!

When your friend hits a move in open mat that she just learned in class, hoist her up in the air like the champion she is!

We celebrate the wins around here 👌✨💪😅

The Westlake magic is back.

One of our parents said that to me this week and it made my whole day. A lot of our families have been traveling all summer, and getting everyone back in town, settled into school, and back on the mats has been a blast.

That is what this room is built for. Kids flexing after class, parents on the mat next to their kids, and a group that actually feels like family.

Can't wait to see everybody this week.

Never trained before? Your first class is on us. ampbjj.com/free-trial or link in bio.

Nobody tells you what the first day actually looks like. So here it is. 🥋The hardest part of jiu-jitsu isn't the armbar — it's walking through the door. Your brain treats "new + unfamiliar + physical" as a threat, and that's exactly why most adults never start. But here's what learning science tells us: competence follows exposure, not the other way around. You don't need to be ready. You need to show up, breathe, and learn ONE thing.I started at 40. Every black belt you'll ever meet once stood in the doorway wondering if they belonged. They did. So do you.🎯 First class goals: show up → breathe → learn one thing. That's it.#LessonsOnTheMat #BJJ #AdultBeginner #BrazilianJiuJitsu #StartingAt40 #WhiteBelt #MastersBJJ #JiuJitsuLifestyle #GrowthMindset #FirstClass

Adaptive BJJ Spotlight 🥋

Today we sat down with Alex after he trained at the AMP BJJ Adaptive Jiu-Jitsu event — back on the mats following a Guillain-Barré diagnosis, and thriving.

With 14 years of wrestling and three years of previous jiu-jitsu under his belt, Alex isn’t new to the grind, he’s just relearning it on new terms, rebuilding leverage and technique without relying on full strength.

He’s slowly searching for gyms that are truly inclusive, and he’ll tell you it’s not always easy to find. Not every space is set up to adapt with you. That’s exactly why events like this matter.

Off the mats, Alex plays wheelchair rugby. Active doesn’t begin to cover it.

This is what an inclusive training environment looks like. Proud to capture stories like his. Thank you for sharing your story, Alex. 🙏

Side note, if you read this far, any local Austin area gyms open to hosting events like this or collaborating to host? It was truly eye opening to witness these athletes work.

The mat doesn’t lie about what you put into it. Suki just earned her first stripe, and it’s no accident — she’s shown up consistent, trained hard, and found the fun in the grind. That’s the lesson right there: discipline and joy aren’t opposites, they feed each other. AMP BJJ celebrates with her — proof that the work is working. 🥋

Today at AMP BJJ Cedar Park we had a lot to celebrate. Multiple promotions across the board. When we award rank at AMP it is never just about what you can do on the mat – it is about who you are becoming off of it. Discipline. Resilience. Character. Every student promoted today has shown us all of that and more. Congratulations. The whole AMP family is with you.

Some days on the mat are just different. Today at AMP BJJ Cedar Park, we celebrated promotions – and Professor Anthony took a moment to share what those moments really mean to us as coaches and as a community. What do we look for? Watch and find out. Huge congratulations to these three. The AMP BJJ family is behind you all the way.

When we learn, we win.
Not just on the mat. In every room we walk into.

Half a year left in 2026. That is not a countdown — that is an invitation. Every rep between now and December is a choice to be a different version of yourself by the time you get there.

Psychologists who study deliberate practice are clear — growth is not accidental. It is designed. It happens when you show up with intention, train with a partner who pushes you, and treat every session as a data point, not a performance.

The mat does not care what you looked like six months ago. It only responds to what you bring today.
So in this next chapter — sure. Let’s get to work.

The mat has a way of showing you exactly where you are. This week at AMP BJJ, we welcomed Brightstar Academy students for some shared training — a good reminder that growth happens faster when the circle widens. We also recognized stripe promotions earned through real commitment, not just attendance. Small milestones matter. They’re proof the work is working.
