@outerboro.films is officially open for business!

After nine years at The Atlantic and The New Yorker, I’m thrilled to launch a production company with the brilliant Kerry Mack and Rebecca Shaid.

Kerry comes from comedy, I come from journalism, and at Outerboro, we’re blending both—telling bold, fringe stories with humor, heart, and a gonzo spirit. From penis enlargement to neo-Nazis, we’re diving into the weird, the wild, and the underexplored. In a dangerous time, we’re finding the humor wherever we can.

Huge thanks to everyone who helped us get here: Penny Lane, Gabriel Sedgwick, Andrew Hutcheson, Charles Frank, Marcus Gershenberg, Randy Barbato & Fenton Bailey, Charlie Traisman, Katherine Romans, David Zucker, Addie Poris, Maggie Pisacane, Simon Hurdon, Bianca Grimshaw, Ryan Mazie—and so many more.

We’re just getting started. Come work with us :)

PA Dems knocked on an average 2,000 doors per minute in PA today! Proud to have been one small drop in this ocean of volunteers. Our two buses alone assigned to Camp Hill, PA knocked on 3,200 doors! I can’t help but tear up with emotion thinking about how many regular people it takes to make our democracy work. We met so many people today who have been living in a motel for months far away from home in order to organize this effort week after week.

It was a thrill to see how many people were not just voting against him but enthusiastically voting FOR her. One woman said it was the first time is years she remembers the feeling of being optimistic for a candidate and another said Kamala was bringing people together and that she could feel she really cares about people. We saw several Republican crossover households and met multigenerational families — grandparents, parents and young first time voters — all voting D up and down the ticket.

Lots of times people were glad to learn that there was enthusiastic Democratic voters in their community because not all streets had campaign signs so we shared that we were being met with such positivity.

We only met one split household and surprisingly, it was the wife who was the Trumper! And only one house where the voter wouldn’t share with us who he was planning to vote for. We had over 50% success in actually talking to people which was better than I have ever experienced. One thing I learned was that this area does not get regular door knocking like suburban Philadelphia, maybe because it’s further to get to for reliably Blue state volunteers so fewer people ignoring the bell.

As a whole, the only discouraging moment was when I learned that 3 twenty-something’s had never heard of of the Wu-Tang and needed the “Presidents are Temporary but Wu-Tang is Forever” sign explained to them.

Less than 72 hours left! We can do this!
