We're proud to announce that Brenda Khumalo, founder and Managing Director of @lobengula_advertising has been appointed Chairperson of the iPendoring board. 🎉

A director since 2019, Brenda succeeds Izelle Venter, who stepped down as chairperson on 15 September and remains a valued member of the board. Astrid de Vos continues as Vice-Chairperson.

Brenda launched Lobengula Advertising in 2020 to give voice to underrepresented African stories. With over 20 years in the industry, she was named the 2024 Standard Bank Top Women Entrepreneur of the Year and took Silver for Agency Leader of the Year at the 2026 @themarkawards

Never allow your limited exposure to be an obstacle to your ambitions. ✈️

The year is 2017 I’ve taken what seems to many to be a career demotion of working at an advertising agency as an Intern after completing my post graduate studies.

I quickly realise that The Pirates of Advertising love hanging out at the bar after work and this gets to be my only opportunity to hear about their creative process of making award-winning work.

One day at the bar my line manager abruptly turns off the music to announce that the agency has won a Bronze Cannes Lions for one of its campaigns.

I turn to the person next to me and ask, “What’s a Cannes Lion?” Because my only reference of the ultimate advertising industry awards show were the Loeries.

As he chucked his second Don Julio shot down his throat, he slurred “It’s the ultimate creative festival globally”

And so my dreams were altered on that day. Since 2017 all I ever wanted was to go to Cannes Lions one day.

And today I sit at the airport waiting for my flight to Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity

And technically I’m the only Independent PR Agency Founder from Cape Town going to Cannes. 🇫🇷

I repeat, never allow your limited exposure to be an obstacle to your ambitions! 😭♥️
