Now is the season of Vernal Pools in our lakeplain prairies and woodland areas in SE Michigan! 🐸 Recently a fun, enthusiastic volunteer group of ecologists went out to explore vernal pools located on the Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy's Sibley Prairie property, no more than a few minutes from the 440 acres we're fighting to protect -the very heart of the Sibley Prairie ecosystem. For those who may not know, vernal pools support a small niche of life which they are completely reliant on, such as the life cycle of Fairy Shrimp!
We are thrilled to have partnered this field trip with members of MNFI, Black to the land Coalition, and the vibrant Herpetologist Dr. Earyn McGee, known on social media as the brilliant lizard finder @afro_herper🦎 and Earyn's passions don't end with herpetology. She is also a talented pottery artist! You can find her art content at @lassoedceramics🏺or at earynmcgee.com/lassoedceramics
