My dear friend and creative comrade @ju._lu married her Chandler last month, and it was a joy to create this Psalm 23 scene for her wedding suite. 🐑🐑🐑 She wanted to gift each wedding guest a print they could keep- one of the many thoughtful details she sprinkled in the celebration. My dear @modbirdcreative did the type, of course! And Jules hand stamped the marbled envelopes that her mom assembled with beautiful Italian paper. Such a special project. Thankful for friends who inspire me creatively and spiritually 💚.

3+ weeks postpartum 🦢 i’ve been quietly trying to find the words and attempt to share what it’s felt like to become a mom. it’s felt like my everest in so many ways because i’m not sure i’m quite eloquent enough to communicate just how much it’s meant to me, this thing called motherhood. so i’m parting ways with the pressure of being poetic. this is my raw feelings 21+ days postpartum.

i remember a particularly tearful appointment with my doctor and talks of my body changes leading up to delivery. i had felt so guilty to even be concerned about my changes because ultimately, lucie was healthy and that was what mattered most. especially with our history of loss previously. but still i remember showing up to my appointment one day after catching a glimpse of myself in bright light just as i was getting dressed and heading out the door. foreign stretch marks now traipsing across my skin. immediately, i was filled with such disdain and shame for my body. a feeling that i knew i would never ever want anyone to ever feel about themselves. and a feeling that i thought i had conquered in my early 20s. because my body is made for more than the way i appear. because i am not just my body, but a person with a soul and mind. because my body is able to make and carry life. so why was i struggling so much? i had gotten myself so worked up — spiraling out of control but also felt tremendous guilt that i was remotely complaining. my husband of course reassured me and told me that i was beautiful, and that stretch marks are perfectly normal and a part of all of the hormonal changes that came with pregnancy.

i was clearly still distraught and upset going to the office. so much so that the entire staff had known from the moment they saw me. i was not my usual joyful, friendly and cheery self. “are you okay?” they asked. “no”, i said immediately breaking into tears. i had finally gathered myself before seeing my doctor, and at first sight, he too knew something was wrong, to which i of course cried for the millionth time right then and there. he so kindly reassured me that i wasn’t the only one to have the same thoughts or experiences, and that the challenges of pregnancies (o
