Whiteout conditions in Montana—zero visibility, tough roads, and a reminder of the challenges that come with bringing care to remote communities. 🚨 We Need Your Help to Make a Difference! 🚨

Smiles Across Montana is partnering with Montana State University for an incredible inaugural mission clinic during the 49th Annual MSU American Indian Council Spring Powwow, March 26–29, 2025. This is a unique opportunity to give back to the community and change lives!

We’ll be providing much-needed dental care to:
✅ Attendees of the Powwow
✅ Uninsured individuals
✅ Anyone struggling with access to care
✅ MSU students

To make this clinic a success, we need dental professionals (DDS, RDH, DA) and administrative volunteers to join us in providing care and hope to those who need it most. Out-of-state volunteers? No problem, getting a Montana volunteer license is simple and straightforward, so you can get involved with ease.

Not able to volunteer? You can still make an impact by donating funds or supplies to support this mission.

🦷 Local businesses and sponsors: We’d love your help! Partner with us to bring health and care to the Bozeman community.

🦷 Businesses and supporters from beyond Bozeman: Join us in making a difference! No matter where you’re located, your support can help us reach hundreds of patients in need.

It takes significant resources to bring care to so many in need—from dental materials and supplies to covering operational costs. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we rely on the generosity of supporters like you to make it all happen. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us deliver smiles and hope.

📩 DM us, email us at smilesacrossmontana@gmail.com, or visit our website at smilesacrossmontana.com to learn more, donate, or volunteer.

📅 Clinic Dates: March 26–29, 2025
📍 Location: Brick Breeden Fieldhouse, Bozeman, MT

💡 This is your chance to be part of something truly special—providing care, giving back, and honoring the life and legacy of Natalie Mays.

Are you using your monitor solely for entertainment? Are your recent vacation photos playing on a slideshow? Do you ask the patient what they’d like to watch during the hygiene appointment? Is your second monitor in a place where it’s hard to see?

📺 These common mistakes diminish the value of the hygiene visit and takes the focus away from the dental hygiene diagnosis.

📺 In my opinion, the second monitor should NEVER have cable networks playing on it during treatment time.

📺 The second monitor should be used for reviewing the results of the technologies you used (Perio charting, radiographs, digital scan, intraoral photograph) or even your recommendations for home care.

📺 The second monitor may also be used for patient education software or online videos to further emphasize your message.

📺 If you’re making this mistake, it’s easy to correct. Start by simply turning off the monitor until you have something you’d like to share with your patient.

📺 When your patient asks can they watch a television show, politely and comically state ‘are you not entertained?!’ Then share why the monitor is in the room and give them something cool to look at.

📺 Let’s entertain the patient with reality TV. It’s their reality that will keep them entertained the most.

📺 What are your thoughts on the second monitor in the operatory?

A bamboo mindset is an understanding that growth takes time🌱

🎋Did you know that when you plant a bamboo seed it takes 7 years before you can start to see the bamboo tree grow?
🎋Once bamboo starts to grow, it’s nearly impossible to kill it!
🎋I’d argue that Bamboo is stronger than steel.
🎋Bamboo bends and never breaks… It is simple in nature and beautiful when formed
🎋A bamboo mindset is rooted in patience, nurturing itself, and longevity.

So slow your busy mind, take your time, nurture yourself, and know good things take time.

Trust the process and have a #BambooMindset

The first of many US stops... Boston! 🇺🇸🍕

Dr. James Younger here 🙋‍♂️ I had a wonderful time attending @chicagodentalsociety Midwinter Meeting! It was a pleasure connecting with familiar faces and meeting endless new dental friends. I arrived with many of my personal business cards and left with a huge stack of fellow dental professionals' business cards. I can't wait to connect with everyone I met to build strong connections in paving a stronger dental community. It was such a blast being surrounded by talented and passionate dental professionals!

I had one of the most unique experiences of recording a podcast with @ataleoftwohygienists on-site at the conference 🎙️ BTW it's already out and available to listen to here https://bit.ly/tthtempstarschicagoepi go check it out! It was such a fun experience and a special thank you to Andrew and Lacy for hosting this episode. Looking forward to recording more!

Thank you to @hendriklai Co-Founder and Principal Consultant at @sagedentalconsulting for inviting me to attend their inaugural dinner where he introduced me to some top-level industry professionals...

- Jimmy McIntire III @jwmcinti VP of @panamdental
- Genevieve Poppe @poppemgmt CEO of Poppe Practice
- Dr. Scott Drucker @druckersd CEO of Supply Clinic
- Amol Nirgudkar @amolnirgudkar CEO of @patientprism
- Amy Brown-Willeford @amyl_2022 Hygiene Coach
- Michelle Gabrielleson Advisor to @uptimehealth

Posted @withregram • @amberaugerrdh ORAL CANCER.

This is what Oral Cancer looks like. Our team co-diagnosed this 71-year-old female with stage 4 oral cancer.

She did not meet the high-risk factors of Oral Cancer patients.

She is a non-smoker. She avoids alcohol. She eats a healthy diet and sees us every 6 months.

The lesion started out interprox 19 and 20 and looked like she had traumatized it with floss. It did not go away. Our dentist made a quick 10-minute appointment 2 weeks after her initial visit. This 10-minute appointment saved her life. The lesion had grown and we got her to the OS to test the tissue the same day.

She had half of her jaw removed and reconstructed in Feb of 2020. I called her the week after surgery and left her my phone number.

When she returned to the office with the news, I held her hand and we both cried. I was able to connect her with Oral Cancer survivors thanks to the @oralcancerfoundation.

Our office closed 2 weeks later. To my surprise, she called me soon after the office closed. She spoke normally and is recovering like a champion.

I am grateful for my friends at @CloSYS who donated products to her so she could heal as comfortably as possible.

DO NOT SKIP a simple Oral Cancer screening.
