It feels unreal that i’m writing this right now. A few weeks ago Dexter started having trouble going to the bathroom and they found a mass. He had a biopsy scheduled for Wednesday, but couldn’t use his back legs this morning, so my parents rushed him to the vet. The vet told us he had aggressive prostate cancer, and we had to make the decision to let him pass today.

Dexter was the best dog I could have ever asked for as my first dog. He stayed by my side throughout college with me in Knoxville, road tripped everywhere with me in my Wrangler, loved jumping in the lake, swimming and running until he couldn’t stand anymore. He always loved everyone he was around with a big smile on his face.

He was fiercely loyal, goofy, energetic, and loving. He was an emotional rock for my mom when my grandfather passed away and he stayed behind with my parents after that. He has been an amazing family dog and dealt with new puppies, new babies, and a constantly changing household.

What hurts me the most is with this happening so quickly, I had to watch my best friend for 10 years pass away over facetime 800 miles away. You deserved a better death, deserved one more trip to the lake, deserved one more big meal, and one more hug from me. My heart is in pieces. I’ll love you forever, Dexter.

You were a good boy…
