Back in June 2019, @vitcavage interviewed 22 writers in the first 6 months of @debutiful’s existence. This was before the podcast. Before the thousands of pitches coming to us and we were out there hustling and trying to find what debut books were coming out.

The traffic we got in a month we get in a day now. The traffic’s we got in all of 2019, we’re almost doubling monthly now.

Pip and Ravi are one of my favorite couples, but the ending (without any spoilers) is so emotional in a way that reminds me of happier and finding it hard to move on

Vampire —> Wuthering Heights
Ahh the book with one of the most toxic love stories. I think it matches really well with vampire

Traitor —> Why we Broke Up
This book is a great exploration of the emotion of a high school break up and, just like traitor, captures the intense feelings of betrayal, confusion, and resignation

Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl —> Fangirl
One of my favorite songs paired with one of my favorite books! The social anxiety and feeling of not belonging or understanding the social expectations is done well in both of these

All American Bitch —> The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
I think Ms. Evelyn can relate to the pressure of being a woman in the spotlight. She is expected to be everything and nothing and this song captures those feelings of frustration

Pretty isn’t pretty —> All The Things We Don’t Talk About
Anyone can relate to not feeling comfortable in your own skin and comparing yourself to everyone around you, never feeling like enough and this is a big theme in all the things we don’t talk about

Lacy —> My WIP
Ahhh my all time favorite Olivia song (one that’s super underrated in my opinion) was one of the biggest inspirations for my main character Magdalena. This book is a sapphic academic rivals to lovers story with a hint of contemporary fantasy and a whole lot of competitive banter. Magdalena, the main character, puts pressure on herself to be perfect, so when the annoyingly perfect Ava Floros joins her class, feelings of jealously blurred with admiration start to grow. 📚🌈 Friday Flatlay - Fiction Favourites by Queer Artists 🌈📚

As is evident by today's Supreme Court ruling in the States, it's going to be more important than ever to push back, to shout queer stories from the rooftops, to make sure that queer books get into the hands of those who need them. And it's proof of how necessary how pride is.

I wanted to end this Pride Month on a high note but this is the messaging I've got right now. I believe things can be better, and it's going to require a fight.
